H2s is hydrogen sulfide, it's a very dangerous gas that we work around on a constant.. But it's always in the pipes or vessels. We wear these monitors to protect us and if we are doing demo or removing a blind flange it's under fresh air.. We use all these controls and more to try to protect us but at the end of the day most new to old pipe you weld or heat up it realeases it.. Over 100 ppm you lose your sense of smell and its fatal if u don't get out of it.
These monitors go off at 10ppm mine went off while I was cutting this thermo weld for this spool piece that goes to an exchanger.. We will get into that later.
My point here is protect yourself if your in this line of work.
Never would have thought the client or the company I work for think that it's ok to cut and weld this without the proper PPE.. Be safe out there
