On the ball: Getting to know Steem, IPFS, Filecoin and Event Object Objects

I didn't have a hangover at all. I certainly needed something to eat but it hangover, no. I'm glad. Sometimes the smallest of things can make you absolutely grateful and put you in prespective of things. I certainly learnt quite a lot on Saturday Night. To put a long story short, I lost my keys whilst at a local club, Betty Blacks and I was so anxious. I lost my keys to get into the house though I had a way to get into it but the fact I lost it, that's what annoyed me.

  • I could of had a lanyard to prevent it.
  • Put it in a place where it couldn't of dropped.
  • At worse, have a backup key somewhere just incase this happened.

See it's the fact that it happened that annoys me but given it all, it's a very small thing. Sure people can think that if I can't keep a hold of keys, what can he actually do but in prespective, anyone can lose a set of keys when they're drinking and that's the thing. The prespective. I making big stuff out of small stuff and it wasn't needed.

To flip the coin however, the person who owns the club, had the keys. He lives about 15 mins away from me but at 2am in the money, he decided to drive round and give me my set of keys back. A sign of character and I'll always be there at least once a week now.

Don't sweat the small stuff, it's all small stuff.

But really it was something small. I just thought it was something bigger which it didn't need to be. That experience helped me out.

What did I learn today!

As DTube uses IPFS to host all of it's video files, I thought it would be a good idea to learn what IPFS was. I understood what it was trying to do but digging into it was real good. I understood the issues behind HTTP and why IPFS was needed for the next step of all things Internet. It also makes sense. I mean what's the point of having information spread out the way it is and then when information becomes closer, to not use that resource. To put that together, IPFS is used really well already if you ask me. I can host a lot of information on my own and know it'll be given to others as it propogates as the file is used. In the end run, I was more interested in learning why some videos weren't working too well and how the relationship with IPFSstore operated. I must say, Brandon Giesing | CosiCast (Name on Discord) answered so many of my questions and I was very happy to have the conversation with him. I was able to get a far stronger understanding of DTube and understand why it'll probably move onto Filecoin in the future.

These conversations took most of my day thinking about it. I was so interested to get a better understanding of DTube. I now have nearly all of my videos pinned from local backups. It seems IPFS Store wasn't pinning my files any longer so I decided that I could do it myself. It's my files and I do support them so I thought why not. If i want to watch them in the future when moving, I can sort that out. This is where a lot of my questions stemed from initally.

Moving onwards, I did a little bit of Javascript today. It wasn't much but I was stuck to understand how the Object Event worked. It took me a long time yesterday to get anywhere. I was actually a little fearful in going on it today but as I started reading pages which I had read yesterday, it dawned to me that the function which the element is bound to for either the event handler or listener, would be passed on the event information. I also properly read how the target property of the event object worked. This might not be big stuff but it's more understanding from my side.

Thinking about it now, I wanted to watch some of @jo3potato older Javascript videos. I was watching some of the HTML and CSS videos in the past but I decided to go through a more reading route. However as I was still feeling a little tired from all of the drinking from last night "one could call that a hangover but that's just bring tired in my opinion" I wanted to watch his series on about all things Javascript and I couldn't watch it. This alerted me to think, what about my videos and so that's how the inital start of this post started.

To the point thought, I ended up doing a little bit of reading about all things Javascript but it was very interesting to me today, how IPFS and Filecoin worked. It was important for me to get to know about it so I could understand the underline of what DTube was operating under or would eventually.

Still getting to grips with Steem.

It takes me a lot of time to get used to something and Steem is certainly one of them. As said, I like to make sure I find weaknesses in something because then it makes people have to have a brain to make working these currencies make more sense to me. In this case though, I just wanted to know how Steem rewarded it's users and just read up about Steem. There is no doubt Steem and IPFS works amazingly well together. Free Transactions, every 3 seconds. All that needs to be done is DTube to look through the blockchain and find it's videos and comments which relate to DTube. As writing this, I dunno how it does it so quickly. All of this checking is done on the client side so I'm wondering how it actually does this. Eh I'll look this up another day, tomorrow is a Javascript day.

Overal how does this day help me. Well simply I do have interest within the IPFS and Steem. I do want to put more time into this blog and so that's putting more time into myself. With that, yes I wouldn't mind making some money if people are happy to try to buy Steem to eventually power themselves up with SP. Still it was then important to know if my time and effort was warranted and it was. So I know how IPFS works and why it's a good platform. I do believe that Filecoin is a good investment and so is Steem. I did look at Prop also but it doesn't actually seem that great but it's something I'll have to look about on. If I had more money to put in, I'd put it in Filecoin and Steem right now. Content will only get better in Steem and IPFS makes sense already.

Filecoin just makes IPFS make more sense so information is given as quickly as possible to people in the cheapest way possible in the future. This will help bring prices down for all things ISP costs also. Demand for local transfer rates within computer hardware will go up but the cost to transmit said information will go down heavily. Therefore it makes sense to put investment into IPFS/Filecoin. DTube leverages from IPFS and the better IPFS gets, the better DTube gets which inturn, makes Steem better. Again with Steem getting better, so does IPFS as the use cases becomes more obvious.
