On a distant planet, society has discovered a way to use magic as a fuel source to power their advanced technology. You are the daughter of a sorcerer, and he has bestowed upon you the gift of mystical foresight, allowing you to see into the future of anyone you come across. As you interact with your friends and family, you begin to realize that everyone you know will die around the same time. You ask your father if he understands what this means and he tells you that these visions are of the upcoming apocalypse. You then ask him if there is anything that can be done to prevent this dark future. He ponders your question for a moment and then responds that "the future is still uncertain, but what I do know is this: the magic we use will be our undoing. Over time, magic will learn to manipulate the technology it powers and will rise against us. We must stop this before it is too late."
You are then told to go home now, before your father calls for dinner. You aren't sure what to think or if this is a trick your father is playing, but as you try to leave the room you begin to feel something strange.
There's a guardian out there. He's malicious and wants only to hurt you. You try to activate your magic from elsewhere and after a moment, it works! You successfully teleport out of the house, but it's too late, the guardian is already with you. You look at his grim face and are horrified. You begin to run, but another guardian appears behind you and knocks you to the ground.
Waking up back in your room, you realize that this was all just a vision, but it remains fresh in your mind.
Fast forward twenty years.
You are twenty now and live with your magic masters, your father and now, your husband. These twenty years have been the longest time the world has ever known peace. As it has become common with magic, we have been able to use it to empower our technology. Cities now have magic fueled power plants, which provide magic to homes. With the advancements on transportation, one can change the magic in their home in an instant or even spellcast letters to your friends across the country. Even further, these magic plants have been harnessed in order to create bigger and better things. Planes, trains, and automobiles are now vastly improved, which makes your father proud. He tells you how this is helping society and how you will be living in a better world. He then asks you to tell him a story.
Considering the request, you recount the story of your vision. You first explain what you saw, then you tell him how the vision came to be. He listens intently and then begins to laugh. This puzzles you and you ask what he finds so funny here. After a few moments, he explains that the vision meant nothing and is barely a memory. He says it was just a vision and likely is just part of the magic's strange spell. He then says to you that he doesn't believe that your vision means anything and asks you to stop it. He tells you that it is time to stop seeing things that are not there and that he is tired of your seeing the things you know will not come. In a move of fury, he casts a spell of his own that stuns you and you're forced to listen to his commands and his lesson.
He then begins to tell you how he will teach you what true magic is. He lifts from your palm a small round stone that is the size of your hand. With this stone, he tells you you will learn about the past, the present, and the future. Anything you are thinking about, though you will not be able to control it. Still, he implores you to try. Hide it from him and be careful with it, because in the wrong hands this could be used to bring danger upon us all.
By the time he finishes his story, you begin to understand that your vision would indeed come to pass. You couldn't control it, but you could see it. You see all my future including the one where you get married and have children of your own. You see all my past, but knowing the future makes you realize that you can use the power of this stone to change all of these things, even if it means taking away your own fate. It is your only hope.
