LG Gram 2018

The Lg Gram has gone way beyond its predecessors fixing all it's issues from it's previous generations.large_zoom03.jpg

The New 2018 model is a well rounded device which will keep you working all day long with a massive battery capacity of 72 Watt Hour, and to keep your Dongles and charger at home.

This Device is Available in Intel's 8th generation Cofee Lake i5 8250u with 8 gb of ram and 256 gb ssd and i7 8550u with 16 gb of ram and 500 gb ssd .

The Storage isn't an issue and this is the ONLY Ultrabook Laptop with 2 m.2 slots for ssd support.
even if you buy the 256 variant you can populate the free slot with a relatively cheap 500 gb 3D Nand sata ssd.

Although the ram is upgradeable ,but its a bummer as the i5 only supports a maximum of 8 gb and the i7 supports a maximum of 16 gb of ram,but thats not a fault of LG's.

Lets go through the pros and cons

Pros

  1. Super Light Weight - As the name GRAM suggests this laptop is only 1 kg in weight give or take, with slight variants in difference models.

This Impressive Feat is possible as LG used a Very Lightweight Magnesium Alloy which is sufficiently Durable but making the laptop very much lightweight.

2.Impressive Battery Life - The 72 Watt Hour Battery will easily give you 12-14 hours of real-time in light to moderate practical workload.

3.This is the First time Lg included a Thunderbolt usb c Port with 4 Lanes of Pcie for a maximum of 40 Gbps Data transfer Speed.

Now you can use your favorite External Gpu Enclosers for High Performance Gaming.

You can also charge your device via the usb c with a Powerbank having PowerDelivery option, like the Anker Powercore.

4.This is the Only Laptop in the Ultrabook segment with 2 M.2 slot for massive ssd storage.

Even if you buy the 256 variant you can populate the free slot with a relatively cheap 500 gb 3D Nand sata ssd.

5.Durability - Lg claims to pass the military-grade durability test which includes 7 tests, more specifically the 810g.

This test is a very basic test and wont make your device ultra-durable like military grade hardware but no other laptop companies undergo this test which make Lg stand out.

6.I/o's : Lg has a decent set of i/os including 3x usb 3.0,1x usb c thunderbolt 4 lanes,ethernet and hdmi.

This is very Rare in 2018 when most companies are throwing us into the dongle-lifestyle.

Cons

1.Flimsy : Light Weight have its own Cons. The Magnesium Alloy isn't very sturdy and the body frame and Screen shows significant flex.

Although this seem to be con for most people, the screen retains back to its original state when pressure is removed and the body frame suffered only minor dents when #JerryRigsEverything threw it over some concrete floors.

2.Only one thunderbolt 3 : Although it has a decent set of i/o's only 1 thunderbolt doesn't stand out in 2018, while most of it's competitors have at least 2 thunderbolt 3 included.

3.No Regular Size Sd card support : To all of you photographers and video creators out there you have to rely on third party dongles for Sd card transfer.

4.Pricing : The basic Configuration starts at 1199 usd and can reach well over 2000 usd for the full spec'ed model.

5.Single Fan : Theoritically this Laptop supports External GPU Enclosers but a single-fan design will heavily throttle down your cpu during long hours of gaming.

My recommendations : This Device is very impressive which ticks all the important things of a Laptop and LG Gram does that with maintaining very light weight, but the pricing is way off to be recommended to the general consumers.

No doubt this product has been aimed at who appreciates all rounder I/O,light weight and amazing battery life and are quite not ready to live the Dongle Life.

Techilicious will Give a Rating of 7.5/10 to LG Gram where Points have been deducted for pricing.LG-Gram.png
