Ketanji Brown Jackson should be welcomed by the GOP.

Biden was never going to nominate a pro-life opponent of Roe, or a justice in the mold of Scalia. We all knew this.

But he didn't nominate some far-left loon, some ideologue looking to legislate rather than adjudicate. He picked someone smart, qualified, and relatively boring. She recognizes or at least claims to recognize the role of, you know... words and intent in legislation rather than reaching for opportunities to make it all say what she'd prefer.

If the process by which Biden picked her was fundamentally flawed, that ain't her fault. If groups support her that are bad groups, that ain't her fault. And everything the GOP is throwing at a wall to see what sticks actually bolsters her standing. Not tough on crime? Well, not only is she pretty standard with sentencing, but tough on crime is a euphemism when we as a nation are too tough on crime already. She supports CRT because of one line in a single speech, and uses it to inform her legal judgements? Reaching. She defended a GITMO detainee? There'd be more of a problem if she defended GITMO.

I don't know her personally and I haven't studied her career. But based solely on what is being thrown at her? The Republicans got nothing and outside of a couple of notable exceptions like Sasse and Lee, they're embarrassing themselves with the effort. I've never expected much good from Graham and Hawley, but they've been tripping over themselves to remind me that there's always even further to fall.
