A Place I Call Home

A house is just a concrete structure, while a home is a place where you feel most comfortable and at peace.

I live a simple life. I may have spent couple of years staying in the city, but i'm a "probinsyana" by heart. For my foreign followers, the term "probinsyana" is a filipino terminology for a female, born and raised in a rural area. I stayed in a house just along the shore of Mahayahay Beach, Argao--a municipality at the southern part of Cebu, Philippines, with my 2 brothers and our parents. It's by far, the only place in the world i call home. The view is immense, from sunrise to sunset. The breeze and the sound of the waves is just surprisingly therapeutic. It's like living in paradise. And everyday is a constant reminder of how amazing our creator is.

As expected, i developed skills that people living by the beach would normally posses. I know how to catch fish, may it be it be through baits or fishing nets, i know how to paddle fisherman's boat and i'm really good at swimming. My father's a fisherman so i learned most of it from him. The fun part is, i do board sports as well. Just merely exhausting all the available resources. I skim, i surf and i do stand-up-paddle. I'm not saying i'm really good at it though. But those, along with other locals are our hobbies.

Annually, our municipality would host a board sports competition. My brothers are often part of the top 3, while i on the other hand, being a developed self-conscious lady, end up just watching the entire competition. Besides, i never had the guts to join. I'm really a mediocre or even lesser than that.

What i do now, is I give my full support to our very own Argao Skimboarding Association which promotes not just board sports, but also being responsible members of the society. I may not be able to fully commit to their endeavor, but they know for sure that i will just be a call away if they need me.

My family and friends, the lifestyle we have, the livelihood and the place itself are the reasons why it never fail to excite me, coming home after a long and tiring week along the busy streets of the city.
