The era of cryptogames has only just begun, with immensely popular card-trading Dapps like Cryptokitties and a lot of variations on that, like cryptopuppies or the upcoming Cryptoalpca game. Such games, with their awful lack of gameplay, have proven that cryptogames are a real trend and people do not yet require the uttermost complex game mechanics yet, since a lot of people would prefer any type of game over the boredom a simple cryptocurrency chart causes in most people.
Eth.Town is a new player in this field, which only recently launched on August 2, 2018. The game isn’t just about collecting some things and selling them off again, as it got much more to it than most of the other recently released Dapps. In Eth.Town, the game mainly revolves about purchasing and selling in-game real estate assets, but it’s not limited to that. There are also heroes which you can collect and which will help you on your journey, as well as various collector items and minigames for you to play.
On top, there is a Titans Arena, in which you can fight other players. Collect, breed and train a team of your strongest heroes, prepare them for battle and join in on all-out warfare in the Titans Arena. There is also the possibility of preparing a penguin for a space launch. This requires a bit more effort, however. One has to acquire a variety of items and combine them in the moon factory to make a penguin astronaut and his space rocket. The space rocket can then be sold, hopefully for a ton of profit!
The game got various “Floors”, each with unique looks/attributes and some are also packed with minigames for you to play. You can bid for them in auctions, which start once in a while and you will have to share the floors with other people, who also won a share through the bidding process. The floors yield ETIT, which is a valuable token that can be used for other activities in the game. ETIT tokens also payout ETH dividends to its holders. Each floor has a different risk and ETIT yield, so one must choose carefully to invest in the right floors. If you own the floor and it sells in time, you will get a part of the ETH. If it doesn’t sell in time, you will also get a certain amount of ETIT tokens, which is, at the time of writing, set at 400.
Heroes are another essential aspect of the game. There is a variety of heroes to choose from and every 15 minutes, a new batch of them becomes available for purchase. The price slowly decreases, until someone buys it or when it reaches 0. These heroes can be bought with ETIT tokens for a relatively low price, but they are still level 0. To level them up, one has to breed men and women, where the man and woman are sadly annihilated. It’s possible to get 1 kid, but with a bit of luck, it’s possible to get multiple children! Higher level and specific heroes can be bought from others at Opensea
Heroes can be used to give extra value to your floors, so you get additional profits when they sell. You can also have them fight in the Titans Arena to battle the heroes of other people. They can also be sent into dungeons, where they will fulfill their journey and bring back sweet rewards.
There are various achievements one can complete. Examples are “Get 10 heroes under you control”, “Get profit from 2 different floors” and about 10 more. These achievements also give ETIT and gems as rewards. These achievements are a great way for beginners to get some ETIT/gems to start their journey with. Some of them are pretty easy, so anyone can profit from them!
ETIT tokens, as mentioned earlier, allow some interaction with certain functions in the game and also allow holders to receive ETH dividends. These ETH dividends come from small fractions of the ETH transactions inside the game. The game is quite popular, so the amount of transactions and, thus, the total amount of ETH dividends is huge. ETIT tokens can be obtained by investing in floors. You get ETIT if you win the auction, but also (in lower quantities) if you lose it.
The last thing I’ll give some information about here is Gems. Gems can be obtained through fighting in the Titans Arena, playing minigames, by sending heroes into dungeons, completing achievements and more. Gems can be sent to the Gem Pot, which is filled with a certain amount of ETH. If you have gems, you can send them to pot, where they will be burned. Every 4 days, 10% of the gem pot’s ETH will be sent to the people who burned their Gems in it, proportionate to the amount of gems they burned.
Since the game has only just been released (on august 2nd), it’s still in its infancy and it seems pretty popular already. It’d be tempting to say that the game can only grow into an even larger success. I hope that that happens and it really has the potential to make it happen, but will it actually grow into an even bigger triumph? Or was it simply overhyped and will the hype slowly degrade, eventually making the game another abandoned goldmine? Only time will tell, my dear readers… Only time will tell.
In short, Eth.Town allows players to invest in virtual real estate assets like a special type of cryptocurrencies, but instead of boredom, this game provides its players with a lot of fun. The power of minigames, penguin rockets and hero fights make this dApp a hugely entertaining game, whilst the gems, ETIT, penguin rockets and floor markets allow its players to make profits in a variety of ways. This allows Eth.Town to be a wonderful combination between investment and amusement.
