Friday Files: On a Marmalade Roll

Friday, kitchen day. Two agenda items: sourdough rolls and three fruit marmalade. The third marmalade batch in a month and the second of this particular variety.

The yield: 20 saleable jars and a 21st with a smidgeon that makes for a good quality control taste test.

In the last few weeks, I have sold the largest number of jars, ever. With only 2 of the three fruit in stock, I had to make more ahead of tomorrow's market.

Even though it was only that and rolls, it's a long day. The fruit is all hand cut. The food processor does a shoddy job and the time one spends fishing out and sorting poorly cut fruit defeats the object.

The day did begin with mushrooms. This time there were two beefsteak or amakhowes. They have been saved but some of the others were combined with onions, white wine and spinach as a bed for our Friday fish.

Oh, and check out Rambo behind the socially distanced (for cooling) marmalade.

That has become a customary spot.

Are they a thing, the Friday Files?

I hadn't realised that my Friday Files had become a thing until @lizelle mentioned it in her Hive Silver Bloggers introductory post. Perhaps it really could be a thing? It really began as a burble on a Saturday morning as I reflected on my kitchen activities in preparation for the market. And, I like the alliteration.

So, let's see. They say, if you don't try, you'll never know.

This will be the first post that will have #fridayfiles.

It's also another, and more cheeky not to fellow HiveBloPomian's #foodfriday. He has cleverly developed a daily topic to guide is month of daily blogging. Pop over and check out how well he's doing - great food and some even more fabulous photography.

Until next time, be well
