Huge thank you!

Thank you all for the warm welcome back - I remember my first few posts and how difficult it was to gain traction when I started out on Steemit. Now returning I'm overwhelmed by the response and it seems like the sense of community has grown truly. That brings me on to the topic of this post...

Communities

In short - what are they and how does it all work?

I'm relating it to tags from Steemit (and yes, I'll stop mentioning that site soon I promise!), is that something close to the mark? I feel like I should join some communities and start socialising - it might help me find content to read/curate and put my meagre contributions in front of the right people.

Some topics I'd be interested in finding communities for are:

• Web Development
• Gaming (EVE Online)
• Financial Independence
• Stock market/Investing
• eBay flipping
• Homesteading/Backyard farming
• Kpop/Anime (yes, I'm a bit of a weeb!)

Feel free to promote your community, I'm looking for invites!

So please, excuse any mistakes I make while I get accustomed to this platform. I don't know what has changed, what hasn't and what all this new stuff is. Time to bombard you with questions (and yes, please reply in the comments - I'm learning!)

• What else has been added in the last 2-3 years?
  I've already asked about communities but what else should I know about?

• Does voting power still work the same way?
  If I recall correctly, I could vote on 10 posts per day with full strength votes. Any more than that and my voting power was diluted (or I could use lower % votes to vote more often).

• Does curating still pay out?
  Are you still rewarded for upvoting good content? I hope so, not because I'm greedy but because it was a good way of pushing valuable posts higher, at least until the bots too over!

• What other faux-pas do you think I might make, being out of date?
  Save me from becoming a social pariah - forewarn me!

I'm already working on my next post, which should have more "meat" to it. It's the introduction to a series of posts I'm planning to make (with updates) to keep myself on target.

I'm starting a FIRE journey, Financial Independence Retire Early. I'll go through the steps and reveal probably a little too much about my home finances along with my current plans for clearing debts, start saving and investing with the aim of at least having a comfortable retirement (if not able to retire early).

Please let me know if that interests you, I'm keen to talk with other people on the journey!

PS - Are signatures still the "cool thing? Would anyone be interested in helping me come up with one or designing one for a few Hive? (sounds so strange saying hive.. I'll get used to it!)
