I had a pet as a child and he lived with me until I was a teenager, a small dog with a cute furry tail that wagged quickly to show his joy when he saw me. He was with us for 10 years, of which I have very happy memories. The day he died I felt so sad that I decided never to have a pet again.
I kept that decision until last year. When locked up because of the Covid-19 pandemic, my children needed distraction and joy and so I thought about adopting one again.
I was always more inclined to have dogs, I found them more affectionate and playful than cats. I changed my mind when I met little Simba, as we named him after the cub in the Lion King movie. At only two months old, our new puppy arrived to brighten our days.
Tuve una mascota cuando niña y vivió conmigo hasta mi adolescencia, un perro pequeño con una linda cola peluda que movía con rapidez para demostrar su alegría al verme. Estuvo con nosotros 10 años, de los cuales tengo muy alegres recuerdos. El día que murió sentí tanta tristeza que decidí no volver a tener una mascota.
Mantuve esa decisión hasta el año pasado. Cuando encerrados por la pandemia del Covid-19, mis hijos necesitaban distracción y alegría y entonces pensé nuevamente adoptar una.
Siempre estuve más inclinada a tener perros, me parecían más cariñosos y juguetones que los gatos. Cambié de opinión al conocer al pequeño Simba, así lo llamamos recordando al cachorro de la película del Rey León. Con tan sólo dos meses, nuestro nuevo cachorro llegó para alegrar nuestros días.
In the beginning, we didn't know how to take care of him and we had to learn many things. His meows were heard everywhere and his games made us laugh. Little by little the little furry one was gaining our affection and all our attention.
Having a pet requires great responsibility and dedication. Pets are not only companion animals, but also become a member of the family.
Al principio no sabíamos cómo cuidarlo y tuvimos que aprender muchas cosas. Sus maullidos se escuchaban en todos lados y sus juegos nos hacían reír. Poco a poco el pequeño peludo fue ganando nuestro cariño y toda nuestra atención.
Tener una mascota requiere de una gran responsabilidad y dedicación. Las mascotas no solo son animales de compañías, ellas se convierten en un miembro más de la familia.
His favorite toy was a paper ball. He would chase it around the house as if he were playing soccer with it. He would jump on the living room furniture and scrape at it when his nails were too long to break them with that movement.
He didn't like water and it was a complicated process to bathe him. He ate non-stop, he was always hungry. He was very neat, several times a day he would preen all his fur with his tongue, and after eating he would clean his muzzle by licking his paw and running it over his face.
Su juguete preferido era una pelota de papel. La perseguía por toda la casa como si jugara futbol con ella. Saltaba sobre los muebles de la sala y los aruñaba cuando tenía sus uñas muy largas como para romperlas con ese movimiento.
No le gustaba el agua y era un proceso complicado bañarlo. Comía sin parar, siempre tenía hambre. Era muy aseado, varias veces al día acicalaba todo su pelaje con su lengua y después de comer limpiaba su hocico lamiendo su pata y pasándola por su cara.
The sweetest thing was his purrs, he made them in the morning when he saw me and when I caressed him. When he wanted attention, he made himself understood with his tender look and his meows. We got to know how sweet and tender the kittens are.
Lo más dulce eran sus ronroneos, los hacía en la mañana al verme y cuando lo acariciaba. Cuando quería atención se hacía entender, con su tierna mirada y sus maullidos. Conocimos lo dulce y tierno que son los mininos.
Simba was with us for 6 months. After injuring one hind leg and being treated for several months, he died in December last year. The vet who was treating him could not explain to us what happened. Sadly we had to say goodbye to our little friend.
Those who have lost a pet know that it is very sad and painful to say goodbye to them and they can understand when I say that we miss them very much no matter if they were with us for a short or long time.
Simba estuvo con nosotros 6 meses. Luego de lesionarse una pata trasera y de estar en tratamiento durante varios meses, murió en diciembre del año pasado. La veterinaria que lo trataba no pudo explicarnos que sucedió. Tristemente tuvimos que despedirnos de nuestro pequeño amigo.
Quienes han perdido una mascota saben que resulta muy triste y doloroso despedirse de ellas y entienden cuando digo que se les extraña mucho sin importar si estuvo poco o mucho tiempo con nosotros.
Today I wanted to share the memories I still have of my Simba with you. They came to my mind because I found out that Simba's brother puppy (very similar to him) needs a home to adopt him.
I decided to adopt him and give him a home. I will not repeat the decision I made as a teenager.
I trust that this new experience will be much happier and will last for many years, together with our new pet, which I will certainly introduce to you very soon.

Hoy quise compartir los recuerdos que aún conservo de mi Simba con ustedes. Vinieron a mi mente porque me enteré que un cachorro hermano de Simba (muy parecido a él) necesita un hogar que lo adopte.
Decidí adoptarlo y darle un hogar. No repetiré la decisión que tomé en mi adolescencia.
Confió que esta nueva experiencia será mucho más feliz y durará muchos años, junto a nuestra nueva mascota, que sin duda les presentaré muy pronto.
