STEMng Digest: Being strong is never an option

If you ask many people about the year 2024 as compared to the previous years, many will agree that this is the toughest year so far, especially in terms of economic austerity. The world after COVID19 has been a tough place to survive.

But guess what! We are still here, breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide. It means we are still alive. Perhaps if anyone had told us some years back that we will able to withstand the rigors that 2024 will bring, we would have called the person a liar.

In truth, we really don't know how strong we are, until being strong is no longer an option but a necessity.

Welcome to a new edition of STEMng Digest.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.

Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:

1.@nattybongo: A Possible Correlation Between Astigmastism and Itchy Eyes
This week's edition is opened by an interesting post from our Optometrist. I know rubbing the eyes can sometimes bring a sweet sensation such that we usually don't want to stop. For the first time in my life, I am just learning that this may have something to do with astigmatism, especially if someone is found of doing this quite often. What else can frequent rubbing of the eyes indicate? I encourage you all to read the post.

2.@ebingo: Take Control of Your Fitness Now
In what seems to be becoming a regular feature now, next is a post from our fitness enthusiast. This time, he's looking at the psychology of fitness. If you are a fitness enthusiast or just someone with specific goals for working out, you may want to read this one. What if I tell you that focusing on your end goal may be one of the quickest ways to get tired of your fitness schedule? Perhaps when you read the post, you will understand more.

3.@busted1: Snake Bite and The Quest for Universal Antivenom through Monoclonal Antibodies
Ever since I witnessed someone being bitten by a poisonous snake and all the events that followed it, my views on snakebites have evolved significantly. While we spent hours looking for antivenom, little did I know that the antivenom may not even be effective against the venom of the snake. Thank goodness though, this was not the case. Hence, the significance of this post. Read it and understand where I'm coming from.

4.@eni-ola: The Perils of Excessive Alcohol Consumption and the Harrowing Tale of Cirrhosis
Gather here if you are an alcohol drinker. I am not here to preach to you that you should stop drinking alcohol, but please, read this post. It is about a tale that depicts the fate of someone who consumes alcohol excessively. I know this may not be enough to deter someone, but at least, they will know the possible consequences of what they are doing.

5.@sam9999: Ever wondered what Astronauts eat in Space, or the nature of their meal ? Well find out here
And capping our selection for this week is this interesting piece about what astronauts eat in space. I can bet not many people thought of this as a big deal until now, especially when you realize that they can't have things normally as we have it here on earth. They may even be a chance of getting food supplied from space. No, I'm not bluffing. Just read the post and thank me later.

And that ends our selections for this week. Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.
