Endometriosis Affecting the Female Gender.

While I was trying to gather some news to tell on my youtube channel earlier, I found the story of a certain British-Nigerian actress who never discloses anything about her family on social media, whatever you find on her page is strictly based on her job, and advertising, when there where rumors about her failed marriage, she never acknowledged or debunked the news, she just likes to be secretive that way, so I was beyond shocked to find out an interview she had about having Endometriosis which affected her marriage.

I wondered what this could mean and if it affected her sexual performance or something of the sort. You already know how much I love to study and know about these things so I choose to study about it, and of course, I am going to share with you.

Endometriosis is a medical condition that affects just the female gender, it happens when tissue similar to endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus, it is one difficult diagnosis that is attached to various complications. Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial glands and stroma-like lesions existing outside of the uterus, the lesions could be a peritoneal lesion, superficial implants or cysts that exist on the ovary, or even a deep infiltrating disease.

The tissue acts in response to the hormone that affects the menstrual cycle in the same way as the endometrial tissue. It swells and bleeds in the same manner as the endometrial tissue, but there is nowhere for the blood and the waste tissue to go. The tissue is not a cancerous one but could lead to some adhesions and carrying, it could block the fallopian tubes, and a cyst could form as a result of trapped blood. Tissues can fuse, resulting in changes in the reproductive organs.

There is sure definitive etiology for endometriosis, but there are several existing hypotheses for the development of endometriotic lesions. The current approach to the investigation of endometriosis is human-based either in vivo or in vitro form using cells or tissue samples. There are existing experiments in vivo animal models also, the first type encompasses clinical trials, patients, observational and association studies. On the other hand, an experiment in vitro studies includes histopathological comparative experiments, alongside tissue fragments, and the cells and fluids obtained through resected lesions or aspiration biopsies.

The high demanding burden of endometriosis is very high on individuals, before and after diagnosis, it comes with so much pain that the affected person could either lose a job or lose a partner, the financial burden is also highly significant, there was a survey that stated that patients with Endometriosis in the United States spend around $26,305 within the 5 years before and after diagnosis, it even gets worse after diagnosis as there is more to be spent.

Patients with Endometriosis usually begin to suffer from the condition at a rather young age, often during the productive stage of their lives, creating a highly addictive effect of fatigue, and absence of productivity either in school or at work, it sometimes even hinders some people from taking up career opportunities or have any form of saving. (This is a serious condition)

Some people on the other side do not have any symptoms, a common symptom is pain experienced in the pelvis (the lower section of the body). Pain is often more noticeable during the menstrual period while urinating or defecating, and then during or after sex. Some people also experience fatigue, anxiety or depression, difficulty with getting pregnant, chronic pelvic pain, heavy bleeding during or between periods, and nausea.

It could be difficult to diagnose Endometriosis as I stated earlier and that is because of the similarities it has with several other medical conditions like; Ovarian cysts, Pelvic Inflammatory disease, and Irritable bowel syndrome. Complications of Endometriosis could result in; Inflammation, Ovarian cysts, Infertility, Inflammation, Intestinal and bladder complications.

Treatment options for Endometriosis.

Birth control strategies are one of the standard means of treating endometriosis, this method includes intrauterine progesterone devices, and progetin injections in combination with hormonal pills, which increases the risk of thromboembolism, breast tenderness, and nausea. Progestin injection could lead to weight gain, depression, increased acne, and decreased bone density. Birth control however remains limited in terms of its treatment as so many women cannot use birth control due to the severe side effects or desire to still have children.

Pain is a common symptom of endometriosis, but managing pain is a complex condition. There is inconclusive evidence that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs will provide great relief than placebos. Long-term use of opioid for endometriosis and non-chronic use have remained controversial. The required dosage that can be used to help manage pain will increase with chronic use as the body consistently tries to get used to it.

Laparoscopic surgery is the normal gold standard for diagnosing and treating endometriosis, and it remains the only histological method to confirm endometriosis. In addition, surgery is a trauma to patients, and its intervention could exacerbate fertility issues and pain.

Asides from medical treatment options, some complementary and alternative lifestyle choices can also be used to help manage endometriosis symptoms, the use of; herbal medications, counseling, hypnosis, constant exercise, acupuncture, and the avoidance of caffeine are activities that also help manage the situation.
