New records in Wireless charging.

Nuevos records en carga Inalámbrica.

The dream of renewable energies.

Not relying on cables has been a long-held dream for electric vehicle charging but slow charging speeds have always been a major obstacle, now the US OAK Risge National Laboratory (ORNL) has achieved something interesting, take a Porsche Taycan Sedan to a record 270 kw all with induction system.

Just 3 months ago ORNL announced a wireless charging record of 100 kw for a crosson hyundai kona SUV and now they have surpassed that record with 270 kw which is on par with the fastest cell phone chargers on the market, this means that it is possible to charge an electric vehicle from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes.

And how is that possible?

With this new wireless system you can achieve a 50% gain in battery charge in about 10 minutes, the secret is in the magnetic resonance transmitter system combined with a receiver mounted on the bottom of the car, using polyphase windings they can create a rotating magnetic field that significantly improves energy transfer.

Omer Onar, leader of the ORNL vehicle power electronics research group, explains that this results in a power density 8 to 10 times greater than that of single-phase wireless chargers and with more than 95 percent efficiency, the system is Incredibly compact, the 270 kW receiver for example fits in the space that Porsche has reserved for a wireless charger of only 11 kW in future versions of the Taycan.

The receiver's electromagnetic coils are less than 50cm in diameter and the system is the world's lightest wireless charging unit in terms of kilowatts per kilogram.

Multiplex Benefits.

The benefits are innumerable without the need for cables, you eliminate the problem with bulky plugs and the risk of vandalism or theft of copper cables, and maintenance is simpler since there are no components such as plug-in connectors or liquid cooling systems that must be replaced periodically.

Another interesting point is that the system allows the car to move more than 12 cm and still receive an efficient charge. This solves the problem of short cables not reaching the charging port of electric vehicles and for autonomous vehicles such as robos. taxis, this system is ideal as it allows the car to charge itself without human intervention.

The commercial potential is enormous, encompassing not only electric vehicles but also smartphones, drones, automatically guided vehicles and other mobile robots.
