Air conditioners are a must here
We had one in each bedroom in Hungary, but truly missed one in the living room during the hottest period in summer. Therefore, one of our deal breakers accepting a home would be no air conditioner in the living room. We were very flexible though, but some things are just too annoying and we learned from our homes in the past that you should not make it too uncomfortable for yourself if not needed.
Upon arrival in our first AirBnB, we had 2 broken air conditioners!
Can you believe it? Not one, nope two broken units and let me tell you that even on the first of June when the heat was not that bad yet, we were unable to sleep, not in the bedroom but also not even in the living room (we tried lol). During these moments that you really need some oxygen and fresh air during the night, I feel horrible for being so allergic to mosquitos because I could not open the window even one bit. They already got me the night before and I can still see the bruised spot on my leg from that bite from the 31st of May!
Temporary fix
But it was a temporary fix, it took two days for them to come to actually fix it and then it took a week to break down again. The last days were very unpleasant there. Gosh, I was SO happy when we moved in to our home, and had all new air conditioners in the bedroom as well as in the living room. I mean, even if things break down, usually they will not during the first summer so I felt we'd be all good these hot months.
So far so good
Until tonight that is. With our new kitten in the house, my boyfriend slept on the couch inside to make sure the little rascal is not scratching the owner's furniture, I mean after all, he's a street cat and still a kitten so with some corrections this will soon be all safe. For now, we decide not to risk him getting bored and tear the couch or chairs apart. Anyway, this means both airco units are used during the night. To avoid the kitten from coming inside the bedroom (that he doesn't know yet), I closed the door.
So hot!
I woke up around 5, bloody hot, went to the toilet and noticed that my boyfriend had the fan on. Which is nothing like him because he's a true airco lover during the nights where I hate the dry eyes and throat I get after some hours, he just keeps it on all night. I often turn it off and switch to the fan (which is very loud so also not the best option during the night lol). Anyway, I went back to bed and decided to put the airo temp a bit lower because it was so hot in the room. A few minutes later, the unit gave an error in the screen, I never saw it before but I figured it needed attention. I turned it off and opened the living room door for oxygen (lol) while hoping I could catch some sleep. It was 5 something AM and I really doubted if I could get back to sleep with this heat in the room.
"The air conditioner broke last night"
The first thing my boyfriend mentioned in the morning was that the airco broke down. I said, oh really, mine too! It gave this error. Apparently the one inside did the same. That's odd.. He opened the window and saw this:
Sorry for the bad pictures we were half sleeping still and our view is not that amazing as you can see so why bother, lol. We were in shock and then my boyfriend realized that the cat probably heard it when they were doing this because he sat down near his head and kept meowing constantly while looking at him. He thought it was cute and went back to sleep. For the record, the meowing during the night calling for his family was already over after 2 nights thankfully, so he was actually trying to tell him something this time. Of course we don't know each other that well yet and while sleeping things are a bit fuzzy as well. I think he defo tried warning my boyfriend because the timing was near the time I woke up. Thanks little fella, next time we will take note when you're trying to tell us something!
I contacted the owner
It was not the best message I could send him of course and also felt pretty weird to let him know they stole the units. I mean, we were still in shock ourselves. I feel bad for the guy to because who expects this. I also feel that they should have placed them higher and making it harder to steal honestly, but it's not our property. He said he'd talk to his brother and let me know how to solve it later because we were about to leave to our daughter's (hopefully) new school to get her registered.
To the Guardia civil
And let me know he just came back from it when we just got home ourselves. He said we need to file a report as we are the tenants and were in the house when it happened. We will go there after work in a bit. We managed to recover some parts that they left there, it seems with serial numbers, we took them inside after we checked it from outside on the stairs:
I hate how they put them up there not only because of the easy way for thieves to get to them, but also because of the water that drips from both airco units (plus those of our above neighbors), making the stairs look this nasty and giving 100s of wasps a drinking place during the day. Add to that the tiger mosquitos that we discovered twice in our home the past days and it makes it even worse. Especially being this allergic as I am nowadays.
Not our property
In the end it's not our property and just a public stairs that looks disgusting all the way up and down anyway, but it's shit having to look at this all the time. At this time it's useless to do something about it as the water is still dripping fast enough from our neighbors only, today I hoped the wasps would go as our aircos aren't working, but unfortunately, this is not the case.
Hopefully, replacement comes fast
I doubt it honestly, as it's an insurance matter and we know these are usually not that fast. First we need to get a report at the police, which we will in a bit, and then it's out of our hands. Hoping it won't take long because it's been a nightmare inside today with the heat.
Fingers crossed!
Thanks for reading my rant :) Now I'm going to focus on happy vibes!
