Though I don’t specifically make plans for 2022, I kinda want to relive my childhood years where I spent it doing sports. Swimming was one of my favorite sports other than baseball, basketball, and motocross. Fun fact, I was in a competitive basketball and swimming league though it was just the regional league.
I used to be a regular swimmer. But after highschool, I quit swimming and never returned to the water until recently. I started doing it again as I got access to swimming pools and often stayed at places with swimming pools.
But what specifically prompted me to start regular swimming is when I signed up for the gym early this month. I only went about 4-5 times to the gym because I don’t really like being in a public gym. It feels uncomfortable surrounded by people and having to share equipment where people don’t even wipe the equipment after use. None of the people there wear masks, which I think is quite risky. And knowing that the place where I go has a swimming pool, it tempted me to swim. Plus not to mention, I read the virus doesn’t transmit through water.
So, I started swimming again about two weeks ago. It was daunting at first to swim after years of long layoff. I didn’t even have a proper swimming suit that made me buy a new one. I also started making plans to make the swimming even fun and challenging.
My swimming session is about 60 minutes to 90 minutes 5x/week. My current goal is to be able to swim 100 yards. Unfortunately, the pool is only for short distance swimming which is around 50 yards. For now, I can only do 25 yards freestyle and breastroke.
Yesterday during my swimming session, I didn’t wear swim glasses and made my eyes really red and it was painful to open. So, I decided to get swimming glasses. In the place, they also sell various sports wear and equipment. And today, I decided to get the glasses. I was looking for something standard to prevent my eyes from getting red which I suspect is due the chlorine. There were so many options but I ended up getting the glasses from Speedo which also has a UV filter. I chose black despite the fact that I think the red one was cool too. It comes with a cool case too which makes the glasses look more elegant and fancy.
Inside the pool, I think they really added too much chlorine that even after swimming my hair smells more like chlorine than the shampoo I was using. But after swimming, I feel refreshed and happier, which I think is okay all things considered.
When it comes to any sports and almost anything, I tend to get into a competitive league but get bored quickly as I reach certain mastery. So, I want to change that these days. Instead of just being satisfied once I reach a certain point of mastery, I want to be really good at it.
Have you been getting back into any of your hobbies or any other sport?
