African music is ethical in every way; it's ethics, and it is a very valuable thing for every Africans who respects and knows the real value of their music. For every tribe in Africa, there are different songs or pieces of music that are sung by everyone, depending on the occasions taking place. For instance, we have the lullaby and the ijala music, which are done amongst hunters when they are going to hunt for meat in the bush or when they are back for celebration. There are also songs that are used for moonlight play for children to tell stories. I could remember doing this when I was still very young.
African music is nothing to compare with in every aspect. African music can be used to tell stories and can be used to resolve disputes because of the words of Proverbs that are related. For instance, when two African elders are in a discussion, the elders amongst them know a way of introducing music into their mindset to ensure they are able to resolve a lot of things on time because every African music has a real meaning different from all other music, like the random circular music we listen to today.
I remembered going to a wedding one time, and when I got there, I was able to witness the way weddings are done. Despite trying to elevate the custom and tradition of the African people, you will agree with me that the type of music to be done is purely African music, which they never disappointed me when I got there. For everything they were doing that day, they ensured they introduced African music and this will allow the anchor of that wedding to be able to express him or herself well even with the use of music.
African music, just like I said, is very diverse, we have some type of music like juju, apala, rara, ekun iyawo and many others all these are the titles given to most African music which we are still very much happy we have till today. For the aspect of the ekun iyawo, this is the part that is done in African wedding and this is where they will sing for the wife getting married on her wedding day it is also said to be the cry of the bride when she is leaving her parents house to her husband family.
Comparing African music to some of the music done these days, and in terms of instrumentation, you will see that there are more major differences in terms of lyrics and meaning. Music is meant to pass a message, and then when it passes a message you will understand the lyrics and the message which the music is passing. For everyone that loves African music, you are really doing the right thing to yourself because you will not be able to miss the good quality of music which African music has. I think it's high time we had to keep promoting African music because of the vast use of it, which cannot be left out.
