AFRI-INLEO INITIATIVE 11: ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽน PLAYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MY BEST FIT

Hello everyone in @afritunes community, happy new week. It is great once again to participate in this #afri-inleo initiative and kudos to the following people for this great initiative; @ksam @obaro @starstrings @ovey10. Through this initiative, various topics are discussed and lessons learned. For this initiative, i will be sharing on my best fit as an instrumentalist which major on the electric keyboard and minor on bass guitar and drumset, it promises to be an exciting read.

Growing up was exciting for me even as a church boy (based on my religious background in the Christian faith) and also amidst a family with musical orientation. My father though not a music person per say but had music training abit during his days in the college back then. My mum was a chorister same with my siblings. So, i was raised amidst choristers with good music background.

I started as such but by privilege, i gravitated towards the musical instruments to be more of an instrumentalist than a singer even as i started with percussion instruments such as tambourine, samba (as fondly called then) and later to drumset. These all gave me a good sense of timing, measure amd rhythm in music. As time and chance will have it, i started learning keyboard from my elder brother who was a renowned keyboardist where i grew up then. Gradually, more of my attention, time and rearshal was on the keyboard even with sacrifices and endurance as i have no personal keyboard then.

There comes a time which was the first major turnaround for me as i was the only one available to play the keyboard for that congregational service which happens to be my first experience of such, i was jittery but played and from then i started playing as I'm still playing till now. I started early enough in my early junior secondary days and it's about a decade and a half of playing the electric keyboard. I can say that been an instrumentalist is the best fit for me rather than been a vocalist even though i just started singing nowadays even as i played the piano along.

During my undergraduate days, i met alot of awesome instrumentalists from different parts of the country (Nigeria) and this broadened my perspective and positively influenced my style of playing hereby improving it. Even when i observed the mandatory youth service in Nigeria in the far north, playing the keyboard still goes on. When i bought my own personal keyboard then, it was a major breakthrough for me in my music career and it has really been of help to me even up till now.

So in my journey so far, it has really been about been an instrumentalist rather than been a vocalist. However, here on hive based on the percularity of some community, i do engage in singing which of lately i have found interesting even as many didn't know i can sing or seeing me singing. Aside instrumentation, i do alittle bit of music composition and teaching aswell. Some of my singing and instrumentation i.e. Hive music performance is seen in various music communities like @afritunes @vibes @hiveopenmic @musiczone

Personally, i enjoyed been an instrumentalist and i have been known for such for many years rather than as a vocalist even though i sing sometimes. The good thing about music is to follow one's passion and interest getting better in it daily even as music is dynamic in nature. Thank you for reading as comments and contributions are welcomed.
