Yesterday (here) I posted some pictures about a day trip to Marian Coffin Garden in Wilmington, DE. Those pictures were taken with a Sony dSLR and a kit 15-70mm lens.
I also brought with me my home-made pinhole lens for that same camera. These are the pinhole photos from that same trip.
Here is the old greenhouse (now in ruins) right at the front of the property. Ironically, it is now overrun with foliage. Nature will always recover her own, in time. She has patience.
I really like the soft pinhole and slight over-exposed effect on these picture. I think it serves them well, and gives them an emotional aura that an otherwise normal, modern snapshot wouldn't have.
I'm not going to editorialise on each picture; they're primarily the statues, which I found absolutely fascinating.
Post processing the pictures is tricky. My usual first steps to most of the pictures I take is to increase the exposure, clarity, contrast, and sharpness. This does not hold for pinhole photos, which are not intended, necessarily, to be well exposed, clear, contrasted, and sharp. What I look for with these, instead, is to process to meet the mood of the subject. Sometimes that requires a colour boost, and sometimes it requires muting of the colours. Each one is unique.
Enjoy!
