Sublime and Beautiful Sunday Turtles and a Jackal

Good Morning Happy Sunday and I hope your weekend is going well

And for this week I am sharing a couple of things I saw on recent walks which I have not often seen in the spots I saw them then I took these photos which I think fits the sublime Sunday challenge and also believe they are beautiful so I checked the bases for them fitting into this post.

Starting with this Tortoise which I saw by the Pond in Buttonwood Park, I have seen them in the stream beside the pond before but never at the side of the pond and saw two of them on different visits to the pond recently

Now this is the first of two times in this post when what I took the photo of I thought was one thing, in this case a Turtle but on doing a google search I found out it is a Tortoise.

What is a tortoise anyway?

Is it just a fancy way to say “turtle”? Well, actually, there’s a meaningful difference between tortoises and other turtles. All tortoises are in fact turtles—that is, they belong to the order Testudines or Chelonia, reptiles having bodies encased in a bony shell—but not all turtles are tortoises. If tortoises are turtles, why not just call all turtlelike creatures “turtle”? Because if the animal you’re referring to is a tortoise, some wise guy is going to correct you every time.

The most important thing to remember about tortoises is that they are exclusively land creatures. They live in a variety of habitats, from deserts to wet tropical forests. (Unlike most sea turtles, which take to land only when they are laying eggs, tortoises don’t have much to do with water other than drinking it and occasionally bathing in it.) However, not all land turtles are tortoises; thus, box turtles and wood turtles have been called tortoises, though they are not considered tortoises today. so I Learnt something knew today while preparing this post :)

this one was sitting in an area beside the Warming house and popular for ducks and geese, and people who come to watch or feed them

and this one was on another day at the other side of the pond

On another morning I was walking along West Beach hoping for some birds to fly by when this fellow came running along the beach

Now my first thought was that it was a fox, but again when I did a google Image search I found it was a Jackal, and I felt a bit foolish, but when showed this photo to a coupel of friends they also thought it was a fox

He headed along the beach and then up and over the Hurricane Barrier wall into a fairly built up area, hope he managed to find his way out and back to some woods
