The story of a street artist in Havana, Cuba.

A few days ago I went out to do street photography in Havana. The interesting thing about this activity is the surprises we can find and the life stories in every corner. And although I confess that I am not an expert in the field, I try to do my best. I found many difficulties. It happens that for this type of photography you have to socialize, share with people, it is not just arrive and click, first you have to give an emotional click and so the photo has a different weight.

I got used to wildlife photography; it was very difficult for me to get close to people. But after several attempts I began to see the results. I was walking near an iconic place in the city because of its history, La Bodeguita del Medio, where so many renowned artists have done wonders with their musical art. There, on the corner, there was a man, almost invisible to others, but humbly drawing on small pieces of paper.

The man lived on the street, with all that this implies; that's what he told me. Sick and weak, one day while walking he fell to the ground. It was there that he decided to do something else for his life, which he knew how to do: draw. So, from that moment on, he sits there from very early in the morning to earn an honest living, and he has succeeded very well.

His story impacted me in such a way that it radically changed the idea I had about street photography. Behind every photo, every portrait there is a story, you only have to see the look of its protagonists and everything will be said.

The photos were taken by me (muhammadhalim) with a Nikon D200 camera and a 50.00 mm 1.8 lens.
