To have a day when photographers are celebrated is such a big deal. I mean, it shows that our impact in the world is seen and appreciated.
World photography day was yesterday in Nigeria. Sadly, I couldn't write or talk about it because I was stuck on a job. But I wasn't going to fail to draft a post as soon as I had the time.
Yesterday was a day for me to reflect and reminisce about my time as a photographer. I've been one professionally for over 2 years now and the feeling is amazing.
I shared a bit of my journey on WhatsApp yesterday, and loads of people were wowed at the rate of my growth. I mean, doing photography in Nigeria is hard!!! And to accomplish what I have under barely 3 years is amazing. I'm not one to blow my trumpet, but I deserve.
The wins I've made so far in the journey aren't without challenges. Just like every startup photography brand in Nigeria, I've had my own share of "suffering". I've had my own share of disbelief and uncertainty. There have been times where I question myself if I made the right decision to become a photographer.
It's been almost 3 years, and I can affirm that I made the right call. Over the course of my career, I've experienced significant growth as a photographer, a businessman, and as a human being.
Yesterday, I browsed through my old stuff, and I was grateful. In 2018, I was just a hopeful young man creating art with a smartphone and a Nikon D3300. No fans, no followers, no paparazzi. I looked at those old photos and I laughed. I'm sure you'll laugh too.
Check out some of my old stuff.
Those photographs were taken between 2018 and 2019. You can compare those photos with what I create now. I'm sure you'll see the growth too. And the growth doesn't even end there. I'm still pushing hard, trying to acquire more knowledge until I retire.
The last 3 photos are photos of me. At that time, I still fancied being in front of a camera 😁. I have also grown. From that small guy, to this big guy 😁
I'm super grateful to everyone that has contributed to my successes and growth in the industry.
Happy world photography day!!! Keep creating!
