A french pharmacy in Matanzas

As a photography enthusiast (I don’t consider myself a photographer), I’ve explored many corners of Matanzas (Cuba), but few places continue to captivate me like the Dr. Ernesto Triolet French Pharmacy. Entering this space feels like stepping through a portal back to January 1st, 1882, when two friends, Juan Fermín Figueroa and Ernesto Triolet, decided to open a small pharmacy, unaware that their passion for pharmaceuticals would lead them to make history.

Every corner of this museum, now safeguarding over five million pieces, tells a story. From the ancient bottles of elixirs and tinctures to the original furniture that has remained intact over the years. My camera barely captures the essence of what this place represents: a perfect fusion of science and tradition, where every staff member, to our good fortune, preserves it with utmost care.

The light filtering through the windows creates a magical atmosphere, highlighting the details of an era that seems suspended in time. It’s a true privilege to photograph a National Monument like this, the first pharmaceutical museum in Latin America, where the culture and history of Matanzas converge in every corner.

Exploring the Triolet Pharmacy with my camera in hand is an experience I cannot describe with words, but one I hope my photos will convey. This is a treasure that everyone should know and cherish. I invite you to discover it and immerse yourself in the living history of Matanzas.
