Allium giganteum - Zoom for Light Painting

Zoom in and out during the Exposure

I just found another Dandelion-like flower head and had to get the flower and light paint it. This thing is huge. The one that I got is almost like a meter tall with a stem. So that happened in my studio this week. If I find a few more of the style I can fill a calendar soon.

Simplicity first

Let us see whats possible with this beauty here.

Just 6.2 seconds at F22 with the camera set to ISO 100, just as the lighting test.

Just 12 seconds at F22 with the camera set to ISO 100, adding some colors to test what works.

Simple straight Zoom

In quick a 3.2 seconds exposure with one hand on the lens and the other shedding the light on the flower things can go fast.

This was a little more relaxed 11 seconds.

Zoom & Twist

The camera was mounted to my Camera Rotation rig, making it easy to turn the camera in a coordinated way to the left and right. Making sure the light hits not the entire flower, I created a much more complex composition.

Going from left to right in 3 steps in 24 seconds at F22 with the camera set to ISO 100. That's it.

To get the effect one really has to make sure that only parts of the flower get light that are oposite of the camera turning angle. It's like cutting your hair in the mirror. It's always the other side. 😎

I hope you found the story somewhat interesting and these images inspirational. If you have more questions please do not hesitate. I am happy to share my knowledge.

If you think this is Spam, why did you read this far, and why the fuck bother you? Move on from your self-righteous mind state and bury yourself. Don't bother about what others may find interesting. Just stay in your bubble and ...

Cheer Up, Guys!
