It’s been years since I dug out my old Cokin Filters, probably not long after I gave up with film cameras. If I’m honest there’s not much they do that can’t be done with processing software these days anyway but it’s nice to see what you are capturing. If I’m being honest I had forgotten I had them and only came across them again in an old box of camera gear in the loft I’d forgotten about.
They are a bit old school and these days there will be a few Folks who have not come across then so briefly you have a filter carrier that will fit 2 or 3 filters. Surprisingly they are still available but looking on the net they are a bit niche market and rather expensive at around £20 a filter for the optical effects.
They fit to the camera with different treaded rings to fit various size lens threads.
Finally you can slot plastic or glass filters that have different effects into the carrier. There’s vary from different colour gradients, with pastel or fog effects or star filters with numbers of points, along with many shaped masks such as keyhole’s and circles etc.
Cokin also made filters and carriers in different sizes for compact, of full frame cameras. Most of mine are the A size which was the smallest and will fit lens treads from about 36mm up to around 62mm diameter which is great for Micro 4/3 anyway.
So Hivers why the sudden interest in an old box of Cokin filters well I was off to Dawlish to photo the Christmas lights and I thought the filters would add a bit of spice.
