My skincare routine

Growing up, I wasn't really into skincare. It wasn’t something I spent much time thinking about. My routine was simple: take a bath, apply some body cream, and get dressed. Sometimes, I wouldn’t even bother with the cream. I would just put on my clothes and, if I remembered, quickly apply some on my feet, hands, and face. That was good enough for me.

Back then, I used Dove body lotion mixed with Pears baby oil, and that was my go-to combination even while I was in the university. It felt like a good match for my skin, so I stuck with it. But there were times when I’d run out of cream, and it wasn’t always easy to get the exact brand again. During one of those times, someone suggested I use ori (Shea butter) until I could find my regular lotion again. I wasn’t used to ori, but I gave it a try, and it turned out to be quite effective, though not exactly what I was looking for.

I’ve tried many different bathing soaps and body lotions over the years. Recently, when I decided to change my body lotion, I spent a lot of time asking people for advice. I wanted something that wouldn’t darken my skin. Instead, I hoped to find a product that would enhance my natural skin tone, making it glow in a way that felt right for me. So, I did my research, listened to opinions, and finally settled on Family Care body lotion.

At first, I wasn’t too excited about the Family Care lotion. Honestly, it wasn’t my first choice, but it was what I could afford at the time. However, I quickly realized that it wasn’t working for my skin. Instead of bringing out my natural tone, it seemed to darken my complexion. And what bothered me even more was the way my skin reacted after applying it. A few seconds after use, my skin would wrinkle, making me feel like I hadn’t applied anything at all.

I had to go back to the market to get Shea butter again. Now, I mix the Shea butter with the Family Care lotion each time I want to apply it. This mix makes me feel like I’m giving my skin the nourishment it needs, even though the lotion alone isn’t doing what I hoped.

In the mornings, before taking my bath, I use my face scrub by Becca's glow, leave it on for a while, and then shower. After that, I apply my mixed cream on my body and Shea butter on my feet and hands. I finish up with some deodorant and body spray before getting dressed.

I’m still on the lookout for a good body cream that works for me. But for now, I’ll stick to what I have. I don’t like the idea of wasting it, so I’ll keep using my mix until I find something better. If anyone has suggestions for a good body lotion, I’m definitely open to hearing them. My skincare journey is still a work in progress, and I’m learning as I go.
