Soledad y El Mar - Cover Ft. Siomara Salmerón
Hello Hive friends. After a while without publishing, we are here again, to share some music with you. This time with a theme that I think is one of those geniuses that one enjoys a lot.
One of the things that I like in a musician or composer is their ability to take you to other dimensions from the musical point of view. Natalia Lafourcade, is an artist that I have heard of (and her music of course), for a long time, but on which I had not focused my attention. Either for friends, acquaintances or listening to music with your girlfriend (this is the case), little by little I got closer and finally it dawned on me. Wow! Natalia makes very good music! The latter was what came to mind when listening to several albums by this Mexican, with a Latin American soul.
Natalia and her Music
What a genius that Nati launches! With songs like Hasta la Raíz, En el 2000, Amor de Mis Amores, among others, in Lafourcade and her music we can appreciate a process of evolution that leads her to a "fusion" with young soul and "old" spirit. What can I say? As a musician, in Natalia's work, "everything" happens. Each theme of his authorship is worthy of study. First of all, his nostalgia for the cadences and forms of the Latin American repertoire is noticeable.
Suddenly it surprises you, with some progressions (succession) of chords and melody that make you doubt: -This sounds like Agustín Lara... No?-... -Catch Here! Don't you think of Beatles?-... -No good! This is a bolero-... I confess that these thoughts have invaded me when I listen to his music; quite a trip definitely.
Without intending to make a testament to her life (there is a lot to say), I believe that the artist in question makes "art", with all her words and that only time will tell and will give her her place in Latin American music, as an exponent of a generation of artists, truly inspiring and leading the charge in our music.
A bolero!?... Purf! This girl does invent! -. Another one of those thoughts that came to my head when I heard Soledad y El Mar. This bolero is just great. And here, once again, Natalia shows her “intertemporal” facet. Lafourcade has taken care of the details in the composition and arrangement of this song. In addition to the use of the typical instruments of this musical genre, the presence of other instruments stands out that, although they are not typical, add sound, color and character to the theme, moving it towards a new aesthetic. Requinto, guitar, bongos, clave, double bass and maracas are the typical elements that come to life in this song.
But, in addition to this, other elements can be appreciated, such as electric guitar with swell effects (crescendo) and drums, which is an element not typical of bolero but its role is no less important in this song, with a very particular characteristic, and I explain: how can you notice, above I mentioned the "maracas" however, when listening to the song you can see that they are not present. This is because the drums with the snare effect (drum) played with the brushes assume the function of the brushes. To all this, it can be added that the production quality provides that "something more" that makes the song a jewel that once again allows that character to slip between the "old" and the "new" of the artist.
For this cover I have used Natalia's original version as a guide. One of the particularities of this song is that, as I said before, it has a Jazz type battery (with brushes) acting as maracas and for this I have used Addictive Drums 2 again, as well as for the Bongos . Our bass once again was created through Amplitube 5, from the guitar to simulate said instrument. The guitar of course, how can you appreciate it, I have done it live from the interpretation for the video. And last but not least, the melody has been interpreted by the prodigious voice of Siomara Salmerón
My experience with this subject has been unique. Carrying out an analysis of it and seeing what possibilities it had to make it come out as well as possible have been gratifying for me. I feel very motivated to be able to get a little to the essence of certain artists through the same interpretation and why not, through production. This was my approach to Natalia Lafourcade. Greetings and thanks for the support, until next time!
