My Actifit Report Card and Update: August 13 2022

Hi Everyone,

I'm back with another Actifit Report and Update. It has been a lovely week here in the UK. Very sunny, warm, and dry. Until this point, summer hasn't been superb. A few nice days here and there but a lot of cloudy days. Despite the clouds, there hasn't been much rain over the past 8 weeks. Some of the neighbours' grass is looking a little brown. My garden is still green but the grass and plants are not growing as fast. It saves me mowing the lawn as much. The rain is expected next week. I'm expecting the grass to have a growth spurt.

The 2022 Economics Challenge Series has begun. The first challenge is the Auction Game. Participants bid against each other to win items in the auction. The highest bid wins the auctioned item. Each item has a hidden value. The question provides a range for this value. A Microsoft Excel Model is used to generate the values. The participant earns the value of item they have won minus the amount they bid for it. For example, an item is valued at $100 and the winning bid is $96. The participate received $4 in additional value. The participant with the highest combined value is the overall winner.

The challenge is off to a great start. Seven participants have entered in the first two days. There are another 4 days to go to enter. The first 12 entries will receive an upvote. The second challenge begins in less than 2 days. This will be the business version of the Buying and Selling. This is a familar change for many as it is typically run every two months as part of my regular contests. I recommend you enter the Auction Game and keep watch for Challenge 2. The more challenges you enter, the better chance you have of being the overall winner.

Before the Challenge Series began I wrote a post explaining what needs to change for me to vote in an election. As it stands, voting in elections is a waste of time. Nothing much changes. My key points relate to changing the voting system, the part system (i.e. abolish parties), removal of unelected members and their institutions (e.g. House of Lords), increase broader opportunities for more candidates, and the gradual reduction in size and power of Government. These changes will take a long time and will face substantial resistance. In the post, I order how these changes could be achieved. We are gradually losing our freedoms. We need to do more than stop this trend, we need to reverse it and take society in a very different direction.

I also went back and updated a previous recent post of mine regarding the environment. I updated the section on the ozone layer and UV radiation. I added UV radiation data from the USA. It is really quite startling to see the extent that UV radiation has increased in almost all parts of the USA from 2007 onwards. It would be interesting to see if other countries are experiencing something similar. I know Australian has been experiencing very high levels of UV radiation. Could it still be increasing? The increase in skin cancer cases is a posdible indication this could be the happening.

That wraps up this Actifit Report and Update. I hope everyone has a great weekend. If you have time, give the Challenge Series challenges a go. You might have fun and win some Hive too.
