Still Got It: Friday 30 June 2023

Look at that! I've managed to do (and capture) nearly 15,000 steps just walking around London. You do anyway do a lot of steps if you travel on the Underground. Endless tunnels. Stairs up. Stairs down. Walk the length of the platform in vain hope of a seat (be careful of the last doors that do not open, you can find yourself stuck on one side or the other).

A walk from the car park to the station, more down and up stairs and wandering along tunnels and platforms. Did you know that there is barely any earth under the ground at Westminster? It is full of tunnels.

Then a train from St Pancras to Charing Cross for the thrill of crossing the Jubilee Bridge. I never tire of the sight of the Thames and the views up and down the river.

Proceeded to get lost on the South Bank. More walking until I stumbled over the venue by chance. Much too hot inside, but a pleasant few hours - all the food cleared away before I got to it. Lots of lovely people there to talk to.

Later, back across the river and through the station, find my way past St Martin's in the Fields, and round to the new entrance to the National Portrait Gallery.

So this was the view that was so shocking! Well, there is a Casino in the background, so I guess gambling was not the done thing: well, not openly anyway. Maybe a game of cards or snooker quietly tucked away.

Interesting Gallery, not enough time or energy to do it all, but it has a shop and a cafe and restaurant now. Plenty more steps. Though.

Everything in reverse back to the car.

Definitely weary by the end of the journey, but amazing to be able to step that many steps. Yay!
