Was another one of those weird mornings. A little rain and full cloud and then burned away. Different plan today - get out early to look for a specific orchid on the far side of the NP and then shop hoping to get done before school zone time
By the time the plan was kicked off, the sky was blue. First stop on Elvina Track in Ku--ring Gai Chase NP. Always good for banksias - green form of banksia serratum
Leptospermum flowering - getting confused on ID and this is not as square as the squarrosum I am used to this side
A different banksia - leaf is quite different
This was the mission - Daintree's greenhood. The plant was growing in the moss on the rocks and was only 2 inches tall. The flowers are not fully developed. Look at the capsule below the flower suggests it is already seeding
Lichen also likes the moss banks
A second flower of pterostylis daintreana - not much better photo. There were only 3 open - lots of stalks
This was the surprise found on the way back. I had missed it on the way in. Tightly curled
Going to guess it is a diamond python not even a metre long. It did not budge and head is not to be seen. Was warm enough to be out of the ground
Narrow-leaved hemigenia always flowering up here. Got in the car to drove down to Bairne Trail - twofold mission
Orchid spotting is all about finding the leaves and then investigating. Saw these heart shaped leaves - hard to say what they are - still small
Those leaves are how my orchid spotter mate found these leaves - similar in shape but a different colour. Are there the signs of a bud?
Not there but there are here - budding helmet orchid
This us a known spot. It is a little pelican orchid - anzybas unguiculatas - saw them past year. The spot is unusual us as they prefer the deep rain forest. There is a spot further along - I did not walk that far
A few days a friend posted a photo like this. What is it? I have seen a lot but never bothered to work it out apart from guessingit is a cocoon of some sort
Here is the clue - an insect - it makes a cocoon. Praying mantis
Context photo. The track divides at 2.5 kms from the road. A lot of waling for not a lotnof orchids BUT there is no road noise
A few flowers on the way back - darwinia
Spider grevillea. Wad a good clear the head walk. Did find the one orchid I hope to find open. Tough to get good photos. Got her steps in on a nice day
Got the shopping done including getting a key piece for garden irrigation system
Dinner: My wife had cooked pork stroganov from last week's roast. All I had to do was cook rice.
Trade action: Bought GWA.AC, GNG.AX, DBG.PA, KLS.AX. Credit spreads on HFG.DE, XLK.
