Happy New Year to the WWE universe, it's been a while here. The year 2024 has begun and so have the WWE activities, there are lots of expectations this year. Wrestling fans are anxiously waiting to see how this year's activities will turn out and gradually we've been seeing differences in the weekly RAW and SMACKDOWN activities. What more can we expect? WWE is one of the leading wrestling organizations in the world and they always give the best round the year.
During the close of last year, CM PUNK made his return back to the WWE after many years. Who could have thought? But all the same, the fans were happy to see him and looking forward to seeing what he had left after disappearing for several years. The year began with the first main event which was the Royal Rumble. As we all know Royal Rumble is a fantastic pre-cursor to WrestleMania so it is worth keeping an eye on what happened. 2024 is a year that which everyone is looking forward to the new things the WWE has to offer to the wrestling universe and I can say the surprises are coming in already.
This year's Royal Rumble took place in St. Petersburg, Florida in January 27th and it was a match that won't be forgotten in a jiffy. The WWE Undisputed Universal Championship was on the line at the Royal Rumble and as we all know the current champion isn't ready to let go of his championship just yet. There was a match-up between the current champion Roman Reigns vs LA Knights vs Randy Orton and AJ Styles. It was a match to behold because having these legends in the same ring, what can you expect? It was a great match as all these competitors fought with all their might to overcome and win the title but just as I said earlier, the current champion isn't ready to let go yet. After fighting their best, Roman Reigns retained his championship by pinning AJ Styles.
Then comes the United States Championship, a match-up between Logan Paul and Kevin Owens. I don't know what these two had against each other but they act like a sworn enemy. Logan has good technical ability and this paved pave way for him on WWE. His match with Kevin was a fierce one as he wasn't giving Kevin breathing space but all the same, Kevin gave it all but a small mistake led to his disqualification. One of Logan's buddies passed him a golden knuckle which he planned to use on Kevin but unfortunately, the situation took a new turn as Kevin stole them from him and used it to his advantage. Then this was the architect of Kevin's disqualification which qualifies Logan Paul as the winner.
The big match was the men's Royal Rumble match, this match wasn't short of big wrestlers such as Bobby Lashley, The Miz, and the just-returned CM Punk. The match began and opportunity knocks for some wrestlers who were able to toss others over the rope and get them disqualified. The 30 competitors made their way to the ring one after the other, some got eliminated in the process while the lucky ones continued in the match until they were down to four in the ring which included Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Drew Mcintyre, and Gunther. looking at this, who would you have guessed would be the winner? I thought about this too but surprisingly Cody took the glory and won the men's Royal Rumble match.
Royal Rumble is a ticket to Wrestlemania, this is why all the wrestlers are trying their best to secure a space at the grand event. The Women's Royal Rumble came like a storm, these ladies aren't ready to lose this year. The match began and each competitor found their way to the ring one after the other, they were not ready to give off their ticket for the grand match just like that without giving it their best. Only one-third of the entrants were still in the ring when the 30th entrant Liv Morgan made their way to the ring. After a wonderful matchup, only three were left in the ring and that was Bayley, Liv Morgan, and Jade Cargill. In the end, Bayley was victorious and that secured her a space at Wrestlemania.
It was indeed a match worth watching, unexpected things turned out the way they did with some surprises, and the WWE Universe is anxiously waiting for the next main event. Expect more surprises this year as we don't know what the WWE management has in stock for their fans.
