Conflicted

'You had better hurry if you want to get there on time, Joanna,' Dorathy screamed.
Joanna was fond of going late for most if not all of her those that were medically related .

'It's okay mom, you don't have to yell at me all the time'

'Oh so now I'm yelling?! I'm yelling!'
'There you go again, screaming at the top of your voice. Just give me a minute and I'd be ready'.

I had an appointment with the doctor because of what? Just a mild headache! Mom can seriously get so worked up about trivial issues sometimes. Sighs. I guess I'd just have to give in and follow her to see the doctor, at least that way she would stop yelling'.

'Mom! I'm ready, can we go now? So I got back on time. I have homework to do!'

'I'm right behind you hun'

Sometimes I just wonder what having a father would feel like. My own dad died the day I was born. I know that sounds hilarious 'cause it's the mothers that die most times after delivery but no, my dad was so happy when I was born. He hurriedly took a cab home to borrow a car from our neighbour in order to bring my baby layette and on the way, he got involved in a very fatal accident and didn't make it out alive. I know right?, very sad story but what to do? It seems life was better off without him anyways.

'Monkey, we're here'.

Monkey right? My mom loves calling me that. She said when I was younger I used to hop and yes bananas are my favourite, so I totally get why she calls me that

'But mom, I don't seriously see the need for all these. I said I'm fine but no! You never listen to me, do you?.'

'It's for the best monkey, it won't even take so much time. We'd just run a few tests and we're done. Okay?.
'Okay mom'.

After waiting for so long, we finally got to see the doctor. He asked a few questions and eventually we ran some tests and we received the results after about thirty minutes. While waiting, my mind couldn't help but wander. I looked around, everyone I saw looked either worried, sick or stressed out. I just hate the hospital. My mom seemed a lil bit agitated. After she got the test results she and the doctor had a little chit chat and she got back to me.

'See mom! I'm totally okay'
She looked at me with dread in her eyes and burst out in tears
'Mom! Mom! Mom, what's wrong with you? What's going on? Why are you crying mom?'
' let's go home Joanna. I'd tell you everything at home'.

The ride home was a very quiet yet intense one. Everywhere just felt stuffy even when the windows were open. My mom's eyes were still red but she had stopped crying. Her face was flustered and her hands were shaking. I was worried, what could the doctor have told her to get her this terrified. We finally arrived at home and I couldn't wait to hear what mom had to say. We got into the house and she slowly sat on the cushion.

'Monkey. Could you get me a glass of water?'
'Yes mom'.
I hurried to the kitchen, filled a glass with water and rushed back to the sitting room.
'There you go mom'.
'Thank you monkey'.
'Okay mom! You're keeping me in a lot of suspense and I don't like it. Please out with already…..'
'Monkey you have cancer!'
She screamed out while she burst out in tears.
