Summer Fever: 90°F happy, 10°F burnt

Some of the best memories are made beneath the sun with the sands and the sea. Who could ever get tired of the taste of summer? Definitely not me🤷‍♀️ Aloha everyone! allow me to recap you through our summertime feverishness.

Girls just wanna have sun!☀️

It was a spontaneous hot scorching weekend when out of nowhere—one of us proposed the idea of going to the beach. After many dilemmas, we agreed not to let the sunny weather go to waste.

But before that, we made it clear that we were to go to a public beach to lessen the expenses. We agreed that we would not spend a lot of money on this trip.

Although, what is an outing without a little bit of snacks? So as a cheapskate, we brought every snack we could find at our house.

We rendezvoused at the place of our friend which is just near the beach we planned to go to. When we arrived at their place, we had lunch first— which her parents kindly cooked for us. We also cooked pancit canton (our go-to snack every time we bond) to bring.

On our way to the beach, it was around 2 pm. We stopped by at a convenience store since one of us sponsored a one-litre ice cream to remedy the heat and we also bought drinks.

We walked our way down the sizzling alley to the shore. The weather was really hot, it was around 35-40°C I think. Even with the sunblock we put on, we could still feel our body absorb the heat. It’s impossible for this day to end without our skin getting burned by the sun.

When we reached the beach, we looked for a shady spot— and luckily we found one. We laid our picnic blanket down and put our belongings as well as the snacks there. We sat for a while and ate the food we brought, which was— pancit canton, chiffon cake, and homemade mango grahams as our dessert.

Let’s fast forward to where we agreed to look for a banana boat (we couldn’t get over it last time). When we found one, we were exhilarated with the pink life jacket! It was so cute.

Kuya—the person navigating the boat kindly offered that his son (who he’s with) should take a picture and a video of us while we’re on the banana boat. The result of the image captured did not disappoint!

Had I mentioned I don’t know how to swim? But when we reached the middle part of the ocean, it’s astonishing how this is the second time I rode a banana boat and I was already at ease with it.

I even took off my life jacket and practiced floating and swimming. Since the banana boat stopped for thirty minutes in the deep part of the sea, I had the time to practice. I didn’t know where I got the confidence (maybe it's the calmness and my familiarity with the waves) but I just felt like I could float away and do it.

My friends were very supportive- they believed I could do it effortlessly. It was heartwarming. Although the time given was not enough for me to learn how to swim, it was enough to teach me how to float. I realized that the only way to float is to relax your body (which I know is hard to achieve). As for me, calming and clearing out my thoughts and stress helps out a lot. Sometimes, you just have to let go of all the things that are weighing you down to float and survive.

Thirty minutes felt like three minutes— but despite the inadequate time given, we still enjoyed the 100 pesos or 1.71 (if converted into dollars) fare. I’m definitely up for a third time if given the opportunity.

We headed back to the shore and rested on the blanket for a while. We returned to the sea later on, and there we let the time pass by and waited for the sun to set.

The second we saw the sun was on the verge of setting down, we raced ourselves to the shoreline where we placed our things. We had to get our phones because capturing the scenery of the sun setting and the pretty skies is a must.

This unexpected day beautifully ended. The percentage of happiness this day brings weighs down the percentage of our skin getting burnt. Who cares about getting burnt if you had fun and made memories?

Sea la vie!🌊🏖
