Have you ever asked yourself, when you are in your pensive mood, quiet, and no one in companion but your thoughts...
What would the world be without internet?
How are we going to function as humans without technology?
Others would say we can live without technology or internet or social media but we have to take it as a fact that nowadays, even in the simplest form, everyone and everything are becoming more dependent and reliable to the internet.
Most of the jobs require the use of modern technology...
Most of the transactions (especially payment transactions) are done ONLINE...
Most of the friends we created are done through social media...
You see, almost everything we do are becoming more and more dependent on the use of the internet or the web. And as time progresses, this so-called form of modernization is developing and gets more and more innovative.
In a few years from now, whether we are bullish or bearish about it, the world has to face and embrace the fast-paced scheme of internet and the world of WEB 3.

When sir @ybanezkim26 shared a link about the Bull or Bear event to our group chat of Hivers, I was in my shallow set of thought as to what the event was about but I wanted to attend since it will be attended by my fellow Hivers and I also wanted to try something new. (I have never attended anything like this before because I was not into social gatherings or attending events full of strangers but I want to try something out of my comfort zone so here I am.)
It was perhaps in the midst of June when he sent the link to our group and I was still hesitant back then whether to attend or not. Part of me wanted to and another part of me got a lot of thoughts and anxieties on how should I manage to be in an event when I haven't met anyone yet in person. But that's the whole point of it. I will be attending to know what that was all about and also, to be able to finally meet my fellow hivers.
Weeks after, I almost ditched the thought of joining the event until ma'am @callmesmile raised her concern with regards to joining the event so I was reminded and sent a message to our group that I wanted to attend but I forgot to register. Then @indayclara said that a fellow hiver might have an extra ticket so she gave me one. Thank you @wittyzell for sparing me one of your tickets through @indayclara.
Because of that, I was finally able to meet one of the people I look up to here in Hive sir @nathansenn, @indayclara and sir @ybanezkim26. I also met my fellow hivers @intoy.bugoy, @glecerioberto, @dehai, @ciadanmea, and @jobeliever.
THE EVENT PROPER
The said event was organized by Bitskwela .
It started at around six in the evening with their host Ms. Kish Morales. The first part of the event was the overview of what WEB 3 was all about presented by Aaron Lay, the introduction of different platforms like Sphera Solutions by @iamrainne, Hive and its communities by our very own @nathansenn, Bitget by Jeffrey Saenz, Tekkon by Crypto Pareh and CoinW Philippines by Jearon Wong.
After each spokesperson finished talking about their platforms, the debate about whoever is bullish or bearish with regards to certain topic about WEB 3 and its corresponding branches started. Six debaters (three for the Bullish side and three for the Bearish side) participated in the said debate namely Donald Lim from the Blockchain Council of the Philippines, @nathansenn of Hive, Giu Comia (a content creator), Miranda Miner, Tyrone Bretana, and Ashtley Sandoval.
Although these debaters had undeniably and flawlessly presented their thoughts to whether they were on the bullish of bearish side, as I was just there sitting in the middle of the crowd, I had broken my realization into chunks about each of the given topics to get side on.
So here are some of my takeaways during the whole duration of the debate proper according to debate prompt of the issues or concerns in terms of the birthing of WEB 3 in the near future.
MY TAKEAWAYS (Debate Prompt based)
🖐️ Web3 makes it easier to commit malicious activities such as theft, fraud and hacking.
They key idea here is "Web3 makes it easier". We cannot say it would be easy for Web3 to commit malicious acts but it gives an avenue for such things to be of an easy access to the abusives of wordly blessings. Since people had become more and more dependent to social media that everyone now has the liberty to share their lives to people or even strangers in different platforms, some fraudsters, thieves or hackers are now slowly making their moves, paying attention to your next steps and silently attacks you like a friend that smiles to you in front but stabs you in the back.
It's scary. But we just have to be careful.
Web3 gives way for development and innovation but we, humans, still have that sole responsibility to protect our privacies.
Web3 does what it can. WE can do what we can.
🖐️ Web3 play-to-earn gaming is a passing fad.
I'm not really into playing games online and still have not fully grasp how gamers able to earn money or how play-to-earn works but i'll just take it as a metaphor to writing. Some people write just to express their thoughts and emotions and some people write in order to earn. Writing is a passion and sometimes an occupation. Some writers are paid through commission or project-based scheme (just like any other jobs) and it has been like it through time.
Gaming, on the other hand (from a point of view of someone who doesn't play games), is like writing. Some play games for fun and some for money. I don't know how this play-to-earn idea really works but I guess they are able to make money through sponsors or winnings. I didn't know how all this started but I have known a lot of personalities who made gaming their stable job and been with the industry for several years already.
So for me, I don't think play-to-earn gaming is a passing fad. I think it's just like all of the other jobs existed (just not fully accepted by some as a "real job").
🖐️ Cryptocurrencies should be used as mode of payments for goods.
At first, I was not really into making payments online because I was not that open about it before and sometimes bothered as to why do we really have to pay online when we can just pay it over the counter.
But, as time passes, I became the very person I thought I'd never want to be -- the person who chooses to pay online rather than paying over the counter. There are a lot of benefits of paying through cryptocurrencies -- it's easy access and you can just do it wherever you are.
However, there are some things that cannot be just made possible with cryptocurrencies. For instance, buying goods from our local farmers, or trading with the people who have not been introduced with internet and what more about cryptocurrencies their whole lives.
Honestly, I'm not quite certain on which side I will be on with this one because cryptocurrencies are a good idea but there really are some pros and cons about it.
What do you think?
🖐️ Web3 advocates for transparency, but in doing so, it can violate privacy.
Transparency is a scary thing when we are talking about transparency through internet. Since everyone has a piece of the internet, we cannot control who sees the information we share. And even though we set our settings to privacy, have you ever thought of who the people working behind all of this are?
Our information may be private from other people but the very ones working behind everything we enter on social media knows all of our data.
So, have you ever wondered why some most private information leaked and spread throughout the internet? We may say the hackers made it leak but what if at some point, there was just some trouble with their system that made the leak possible and only those cringy and gossip-worthy ones were the only focused talk-of-the-town?
We cannot control innovation. But we can always control what we want the internet to include in their "transparency".
🖐️ Web3 does not need to be fully decentralized.
Web3 is still a work in progress. It is still on its trial-and-error phase. It claims to be decentralized which means each individual must have a piece of the internet and it increases people's transparency and accountability.
Accountability is such a huge word here. Web3 is a decentralized program already but we, humans, still are the most accountable of the data we let this so-called web to control. We are held accountable of everything we do and we put on the internet.
🖐️ The government should fully regulate Web3 products and projects.
The government CAN regulate Web3 products and projects but NOT "SHOULD FULLY" regulate. We have to be realistic here. The government sees what our individual eyes cannot see. It has weighing its community for years and years and it has seen that there are certain communities that need full regulation of Web3 products and projects but there are also some that needs preservations and make consideration of the marginalized communities that have no access to internet and the like. This Web3 products and projects may be applicable to some, but not to everyone.
Perhaps in the far future, but at least not for now.
These are the debaters during the Bull or Bear Debate at Ayala Central Bloc.
My fellow Hivers, I know most of us are already open to the idea of Web 3 but are you bullish or bearish with these topics?
Is Web3, Boon or Bane?
