Catching up with My Best Friends this Women's Month

My weekend has been so great thanks to my best friends! Since we became adults, going out has been difficult. However, our calendars finally agreed to gift us a meeting. I was so excited to eat, chat, and laugh with them.

We met at noon and had lunch at K-store Tagum. When I was still on my way, I was kind of worried I was going the wrong way. The place was far from downtown. It was as if I was heading to the forest. Luckily, I spotted a little poster saying K-store is just a few more meters ahead.

K-store is a Korean-inspired eat-all-you-can samgyup restaurant. It was my first time trying the place out and I had no regrets. We tried everything from samgyup to tteokbokki to corndogs. I tried my best to stuff myself and make my 300 pesos worth it. LOL.

We stayed there for three hours, mostly talking. Damn, we had a good laugh reminiscing our college days. These are my best friends. That’s Kath in the middle. She’s the poet. She was the only one in our Creative Writing class who did not have to revise a submitted piece. On the right side is Bossing. We call her “Boss” because she’s the most responsible. Back in college, she’s the one reminding us of deadlines, expectations, and such. Then there’s me on the left side. If you’re going to ask them, they’ll probably say I was the sleeper in class. Yikes!

After eating, we decided to go to the karaoke. I could say we all can sing. Kath has the softest voice, but she sings ROCK music! So it’s rock song but angelic if that makes sense. Bossing is the romantic type. She sings too many love songs these days probably because she just had a new boyfriend. YAY! That’s one of what we are celebrating that day. Me? I’m the Lana Del Rey type. Feeling sad girl.

At 5:00 PM, we walked our way to the ukay-ukay stores or thrift shops. We tried several clothes but ended up buying nothing except for a 5-peso blouse which I’m planning to transform (I hope I succeed this time). I guess we just went for the therapeutic effect of searching for clothes under a pile or through a section of hung dresses.

Do you find ukay-ukay therapeutic too? Just forget about the additional laundry problem.

Dinner time came but we were still so full, so we chose to visit Yoogi for dessert. Yoogi is a café serving frozen yogurt. It is quite famous here in Tagum City. You can choose any add-ons you want. Truly a delight!

I found they have “Art of War” by Sun Tzu. If we had more time, we would have read it.

While savoring the creamy yogurt, Kath told us about an application that enables users to apply for an e-library card. How convenient! I need that because I wish to read more books this year. They also shared their recent teaching experiences as they are both teachers now. If only they could see how their eyes sparkle when they talk about their funny moments. They say teaching is tiring, but the way they retell stories of their students and lessons tells me they are enjoying their job so much. Cheers to that!

We parted ways after some time. I went home with a stuffed stomach and a happy heart. Every meeting with them is special. I find it hard to make many friends because I am looking for a true connection, and that’s what I found with them. I hope they both find more happiness and blessings. They truly deserve it.

I love you, girls! Happy Women's Month 2023!

P.S. Here's a photo of the sunset that day.
