Para escribir la historia de “Ángel Guardián”, leí bastantes artículos y textos relacionados a los ángeles y a los demonios para tener una visión general sobre el tema.
A pesar que es un manga Shounen y el tema de los ángeles se maneja sin ninguna aproximación teológica o ideológica, era necesario contar con un entendimiento de las jerarquías celestiales para poder armar la trama.
Dentro de la historia, tiene más predominancia los ángeles en su jerarquía más baja, es decir, los que están en más contacto con los humanos para que pudieran interactuar con ellos de una manera más creíble.
Sin embargo, a medida que se va desarrollando la historia, van apareciendo otras jerarquías, como es el caso de los Arcángeles.
Los Arcángeles son considerados los jefes de los ángeles y los mensajeros que traen información importante del mundo superior a humanos especialmente seleccionados para recibirlos.
En el primer capítulo, aparece brevemente el Arcángel Gabriel como mensajero y es quien entrega las armas elaboradas especialmente para Kyrsiel y Gersiel.
Más adelante, en el capítulo 9, aparecerá el Arcángel Rafael también con un propósito muy específico.
Al Arcángel Rafael se lo conoce como “el Médico del Cielo”. Su nombre, entre varias definiciones, significa “Medicina de Dios”. El color que prevalece en su aura es el verde. Este color está asociado a la esperanza, pero también a la curación y la medicina.
Se le representa sosteniendo una vara atada a una garrafa que contiene agua medicinal con una mano mientras que en la otra sostiene un pescado. Esto simboliza la medicina y curación para el cuerpo físico y el alma.
Tomando en cuenta estas características, hice el diseño de Rafael para el manga:
Ya que Rafael simboliza tanto la sanación, quise que tuviera un aspecto que reflejara calma y serenidad sin que dejara de lado su lado guerrero cuando las circunstancias lo requieren. También, quise que en su diseño sus alas lucieran diferentes para reflejar la diferencia en la jerarquía sin necesidad de acudir a elementos en sus vestiduras que indicaran estatus. Quería que transmitiera sencillez y humildad.
Me gustó mucho trabajar su diseño. Estaré haciendo ilustraciones más pulidas con él para practicarlo. Este diseño preliminar lo coloree con brochas de lápices acuarelables para darle el aspecto de boceto.

To write the story of "Angel Guardian," I read several articles and texts related to angels and demons to have a general understanding of the subject.
Even though it is a Shounen manga and the theme of angels is handled without any theological or ideological approach, it was necessary to have an understanding of celestial hierarchies to be able to develop the plot.
Within the story, the lower-ranking angels are more predominant, i.e., those who are in closer contact with humans so that they could interact with them in a more believable way.
However, as the story unfolds, other hierarchies begin to appear, such as the Archangels.
The Archangels are considered the leaders of the angels and the messengers who bring important information from the higher world to specially selected humans.
In the first chapter, the Archangel Gabriel briefly appears as a messenger and is the one who delivers weapons specially crafted for Kyrsiel and Gersiel.
Later, in chapter 9, the Archangel Raphael will also appear with a very specific purpose.
Archangel Raphael is known as "the Physician of Heaven." His name, among several definitions, means "Medicine of God." The prevailing color in his aura is green. This color is associated with hope, but also with healing and medicine.
He is depicted holding a staff tied to a flask containing medicinal water in one hand, while in the other hand, he holds a fish. This symbolizes medicine and healing for the physical body and the soul.
Taking into account these characteristics, I designed Raphael for the manga:
Since Raphael symbolizes healing so much, I wanted him to have an appearance that reflected calm and serenity without neglecting his warrior side when circumstances require it. Also, I wanted his wings in the design to look different to reflect the difference in hierarchy without needing to resort to elements in his garments that indicated status. I wanted to convey simplicity and humility.
I really enjoyed working on his design. I will be creating more polished illustrations with him to practice. I colored this preliminary design with watercolor pencil brushes to give it a sketch-like appearance.
