UPLIFTING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION: A MOVIE REVIEW AND A REFLECTIVE ESSAY FOR THE FILM MUNTING TINIG (SMALL VOICES)
"Teaching is the noblest profession of all other professions", this phrase is one of the most common statement I've heard when talking about teaching as a profession. Little did we know, teachers are not just teacher, they are family. They provide, just like our "mama" and "papa" do. They listen, when nobody else does, and they care, just as how they care for their "anak" and families. Certainly, there's nothing a dedicated teacher can't do for his students. Moreover, the film "Mga Munting Tinig", emphasizes the teacher's role in fostering civic consciousness, duties of citizenship, personal discipline, and most especially, moral character. The film touches on several aspects of the National Objectives of the Philippine Education including access to education, wherein it highlights the challenges of providing education to remote and isolated areas. Thus, it aligns with the government's objective of making education accessible to all regardless of social standing or geographical location.

Through the character of Melinda Santiago, the film underscores the importance of quality education despite challenges faced such as limited resources of classroom facilities. Despite all odds, Melinda strive to deliver meaningful learning experiences and instructions that ultimately changed the lives of her students. Furthermore, the film emphasizes the transformative power of a transformational teacher like Melinda in uplifting individuals and communities through the power of education. Another challenges faced by the students are risk pertaining to physical and emotional safety. Physically and emotionally, students and the community in general aren't safe for a number of reasons, firstly, the place is infested with insurgency, classes mostly happened outside due to lack of school infrastructures, poor social economic status of the community, and unpleasant school culture. These instances are both a contributor to physical and emotional risk that put students' well-being at stake.

Moreover, by creating a supportive learning environment, Melinda manages to develop an atmosphere where students felt valued and appreciated. Thus, it encourages students to be actively engaged in learning and connected to the school and to a broader community. Truly, "Mga Munting Tinig" touches my heart and made me realize the sacrifices of all dedicated teachers out there, that are not afraid to risk despite compromising personal life choices. Additionally, every teacher's goal is to produce not just students that are good academically, as a teacher you also have to instill life and career skills that is most essential to real world experiences. As a future educator, one thing that I can do to help my students become lifelong learners is simply to be dedicated and committed with my work. Of course, I want to be remembered as a teacher that is firm but with a heart for my students just like teacher Melinda. With that, being able to listen and be listened is the special formula to have students whom we can call lifelong learners.
