Injured Badger Hole Adventures - Episode 10

The Episode Ten of the Injured Badger Hole Adventure is dominated by the barking of what I think is a large deer, but it could also be an alarmed fox. The barking sound captures my attention shortly after I started filming Woodpecker Decker and despite echoing ominously through the woods, I was unable to capture the animal giving the roar out.

The barking kept getting closer, but because I was exposed on a slope, I decided to make way to a larger tree in order to not stand out. However the approach made a lot of rustling sound on dry fallen leaves, eventually scaring the animal making the call away, without me capturing it on camera.

Despite two weeks passing since I started the efforts to save the life of the injured badger, the badger has not been seen, giving serious rise to the suspicion that he’s now quite surely dead. The fox who came to snoop around his burrow returned again, but only passed by the hole. My trail camera only captured it’s tail as it was leaving. Consequently, at this stage I’m still unsure whether the fox has an intent to repurpose the ex-badger’s sett as his own den or not. I suspect the near future will cast more light on the future of the sett and whether a new animal moves in there to turn it into their home.
