Hardness makes the heart harden and tenderness gives life a chance to feel genuine love. Likewise with soft-textured foods can make the heart melt with happiness.

Steamed Tofu Recipe with Mushrooms

Have you ever seen tofu in real life, or even tried tofu? There are many types of tofu, especially those sold in the Asian Market with a soft texture plus egg.

In Indonesia, the popular tofu is the yellow one with the white one. Both types we often cook in our family. But my favorite is white tofu which I have often shared on my blog with you guys.

The reason I prefer white tofu today is that it has a softer texture than yellow tofu. Also at this time, the taste of yellow tofu is a bit sour in my area, maybe it's also influenced by the ingredients that have changed from the original.

This time I will make a new menu from tofu that I have never cooked. I tried this menu after I felt bored with the tofu menu that I had been cooking so far.

I mix tofu with mushrooms. Maybe this looks very ordinary because the colors of these two ingredients, which are both white, do not vary. But I only have these ingredients in the pantry and haven't shopped at the market yet. So I think this is not a problem. Anyway, in my opinion, this would be a delicious combination. Moreover, the taste of mushrooms is like the taste of chicken meat with a pleasant texture.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • Tofu
  • Mushrooms
  • Red chili
  • red onions
  • garlic
  • spring onions
  • soy sauce
  • bay leaves
  • Seasoning such as salt, and a little sugar.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Prepare all the ingredients, cut into pieces onion, garlic, and chili. And spring onions. Also, clean the mushrooms, and cut them into desired pieces if desired.

STEP 2

Cut the tofu as you wish. Usually, each region has a different shape and size of tofu. So you can adjust it, not too big, not too small. If the tofu is cut too small, it will crumble easily. On the other hand, if the pieces of tofu are too big, it will be difficult to absorb the spices and the final taste will not be optimal.

Here I only divide the tofu in half on each tofu block, because the size of the tofu is not too big.

STEP 3

After finishing with preparing all the ingredients, it's time to neatly arrange the ingredients into the steamer container. Don't forget to preheat the steamer by boiling water in the steamer.

In the first layer, arrange the mushrooms. Arrange a full container. Or, if you have a small steamer container, you can use the steamer twice, although it will take more time. Fortunately, here my ingredients can fit in one steamer container at a time.

STEP 4

Add the tofu pieces on top of the mushrooms. Side aside.

Serve this side dish while it's warm. Can be served with rice, potatoes, or another your favorite staple food.

Sometimes I only eat this meal without rice. Sometimes I also try to eat it with rice, also with a sprinkling of fried onions and fresh spring onions.

For a menu that is my first time making this, I am happy with the results that taste delicious and have a super soft texture.

For non-vegan menus and for even softer results, you can use egg tofu or silk tofu.

I'm sure this menu will make you fall in love with its softness. Also, the taste of the mushrooms that would be a pity to miss of course.

This steamed tofu is easy to make and can save you time while preparing other things when making this menu. Especially if preparing for breakfast, this will really help save time in the morning. You can while preparing yourself to be ready to work while waiting for this steamed tofu dish to cook.
