Firstly, what the hell is PONAWOT. Well for me it is "Proof Of Not A Waste Of Time". For nearly 2 years now, my family have seen me spending lots of time on STEEM - quite possibly more than I should. Anyway, tomorrow I get to prove it isn't a waste of time, that the magically internet money is real and can be used to improve our lives.
Rewind a little please JK...
This post from last June explains what is going on.
This post also shows how excited I was at the time.
To summarise, I had around 2000 SP at the time, but was very stretched for fiat money at the time. Elton John announced he was coming to our home town and I wanted to treat my wife to a special night out. Couldn't afford the tickets, or justify a fiat debt to buy them. Instead I borrowed 1750 STEEM from the venerable "Bank of @neoxian". Repayments were agreed upon of 2000 STEEM via power-down. I converted the STEEM plus a small amount of BTC I had at the time into AUD fiat and purchased 2 VIP tickets for a total of $1200. (equivalent to around $800 - $900 USD for comparison). This is something I would never have even considered doing without having grafted and scrounged my way to 2000 SP of STEEM at the time.
In hindsight, I think I got an amazing deal. By the time the power-down had finished, STEEM had pretty much halved in value. So my $1200 worth of STEEM would have only been worth about $500 to $600. Since then, I have built back up close to 2000 SP on my main account, plus I have a few other accounts focused on tribes, with a lot more value in them than I had back then. The power-down forced me to keep grinding, keep active while STEEM steadily declined, and build up stronger than ever.
Tomorrow is the night.
Yup, that Elton John concert I was so damn excited about 8 months ago is finally here.
Can't wait.
Once again I'd like to thank Mr @neoxian for enabling this. The loan at the time was immensely appreciated, and it still is today.
Sometimes Steem isn't just about stacking up more and more SP, endlessly building up an account. Rebuilding sometimes gives more focus and purpose. Most importantly, how can STEEM improve our lives.
Thanks to the STEEM community for helping me find a little piece of the blockchain to make my digital home, and improve my real world life a bit.
STEEM ON Everyone.
Cheers,
JK.
