THE WRATH OF THE KING

The time had come when Ester had settled to approach the king without being summoned. She borrowed strength from the Most High and without meditating on the feat, she fearlessly proceed. She took with her two maids, on her side to support her feeble body and another to carry the train behind her. She glowed in her beauty and her countenance was joyous and full of confidence, although her heart was trembling with fear.

She passed through the halls until she found herself standing before the king of the earth, seated on his royal throne with the wicked Haman (boo!) at his side. The king was arrayed in full dress, with brilliant kingly garments, precious stones, glorious attire. In his hand was the heavy golden scepter, used to decree judgment or mercy upon all who appear before him. He turned his head towards her and she could see his wrath welling up in his face, it became red and his eye opened wide in anger as he realized this blatant disregard for the rules. He was about to speak when…

Let’s pause for a moment. Is this the end of Ester? Is this the end of the people of God? In this very moment, the king has the power to enforce his rule and have Ester killed, or show her mercy and hear what she has to say. What are we waiting for? Let’s find out!

…in that moment, God softened his heart towards his beautiful queen and his continence changed from anger to gentleness and concern. He sprang from his throne and extended his golden scepter and touched her neck with it, sparing her from certain death according to his rule. He said “Have no fear, I have spared your life according to my right as king. Come near to me. Why have you come, having not been summoned? What is the matter, my queen?”

She said “I cannot stop thinking about you, my king. I beheld your majesty in my mind, oh honorable one, and you seemed to me like an angel of God. My heart was troubled and I determined I must place my eyes upon you and see your glory upon the throne, if only for a moment. My body became weak when I saw your awesome wonder, even a fleeting glimpse of your magnificence caused me to swoon and caused my head to became light. Your overwhelming benevolence which you display upon your throne of mercy and in your glorious attire, cause me… it’s too much…”
And at that, she fainted onto the floor.

Her maids revived her and by order of the king, gently escorted her back to her room to recover. The king was overwhelmed with this flattering display and could not stop smiling every time he thought of Ester and her words towards him. Haman (boo!) wanted to remove the silly grin from the king’s face, but he could not because he couldn’t make the king obey him, even for a second.

“And what was the deal with Ester, that was weird.” thought wicked Haman.
