Another Angel in the collection. Jarrod Washburn is another player perhaps forgotten by MLB history. He had a nice career of a decent length, 12 years from 1998-2009. Eight of those seasons were spent with the Angels in southern California
Washburn in some ways is a one hit wonder, but that one 'hit' in 2002 was well worth it. Washburn went 18-6 as a starting pitcher that season and posted a very nice 3.15 ERA. Washburn placed 4th in Cy Young voting that season and, as I said in the Adam Kennedy post, helped the Angels win the World Series. That 2002 World Series Championship is the only championship the Angels have ever won.
I thought Washburn was going to be a better player going forward from then, but he never reached that 2002 level of play again really. He was not terrible after that, but became very much more of a middle of the road pitcher in the league.
He retired after the 2009 season with a 107-109 record and a 4.1 ERA.
