[Hive P v. S] Game ready for release

Finally almost there

A few weeks ago I got back to working with Hive P v. S, the game has been very close to final for a long time, but as often wrapping things up is time consuming and filled with the least interesting tasks... Bad for the project, good for other projects as I have one, almost two, other games quite far in development.

There will be a proper news post about Hive P v. S later when all the versions of the game have been released. It takes a while for the various stores to review and approve the game. While waiting, here is a trailer, below are links to where you can currently play the game as well.

I'll quote my short development blog from itch.io below, including the links to where to try the game.

"After working on and off on Hive P v. S for the last few years it is finally finished. The project might not be that exiting, but it has been a nice experience of getting back to development and to go through the whole process from start to finish.

The goal has been to make games in a way that allow for quick iteration and manageable release on many platforms. Hive P v. S is released for browsers, Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. When working with the game it is possible to do code, level, audio, graphics work in the proper tool, while having the game running and updating accordingly. Both of these have been possible for me to achieve with my limited programing experience by using browser tech and to use Capacitor for mobile native and Electron for desktop native.

The game itself uses Preact, Bulma and PixiJS to get things happening in the browser. I used Preact and Bulma to be able to create a responsive interface that works for all shapes and sizes of screens. It worked well, but did create a bit bloated code, for the next project all will be "in-game" instead to minimize the dependencies.

Game is currently playable in the browser, on desktops and iOS. Android, Steam and MS store releases are currently being reviewed."

About

Hive P v. S is a mashup of classic arcade games. You fly around collecting stars, each star collected spawn an entity that forms a tail that gets longer and longer. Avoid the tail for as long as possible until you get a power up that gives you a limited time to eliminate the tail. If successful you'll get bonus points and new stars are spawned. Rinse and repeat.

If the final score is high enough, you'll get the opportunity to submit the score to the high score table.
