MY HIVE INTRODUCTORY POST

WHO AM I?

To be vulnerably honest, this has to be the one-hundredth time I'm trying to actually complete this introductory post. Please, please do not judge me, pinkie promise? LOL. Did you ever struggle with yours or did you get it right the very first time?

I have deleted paragraphs upon paragraphs because I was clueless as to how to begin, what to write about, I wanted this to be perfect so bad that I beat myself up about it. At some point, I did give up but I'm here now, here to stay. I sincerely look forward to meeting new people and making new friends here. Hopefully, the feeling is mutual.

My name is OMOSEFE, I am from Edo state in Nigeria. If you're wondering what Omosefe means, do leave google out of this (where is your sense of humor? Just kidding!), I'll tell ya. My name means 'Child is greater than Wealth'.

For years I wondered why my parents gave me such a beautiful name. I thought to myself ‘my birth must have been special’. Out of sheer curiosity, I asked my folks why I was called ‘Omosefe’. This is where it gets interesting so I strongly recommend a glass of chilled water. According to my aunt, my parents had difficulties conceiving another child after my older sister. They spent all that they could to no avail. Having all that money didn’t exactly make my mum the happiest, birthing me did.

I love singing(especially in the bathroom), I love music- great music, I love reading, I love to dance(when no one is watching). I love to hold intelligent conversations. I enjoy talking and I never get tired, call me a talkative if you must, I promise I won't get mad.

WHY AM I HERE

My good friends @onwugbenuvictor and @readthisplease who seem to believe there is something special about how I bring my stories to life with words...so, here I am. Now that I have seen what HIVE is about, I can’t fully express how grateful I am to be here. Thank you again, Victor. Please welcome your newest member HIVERS.

MY WRITING JOURNEY
img_20211101_wa0030.jpg

As a little girl, I enjoyed writing fictional love stories and songs. I did pretty well with school essays. Fast forward to when I was about 18, I fell in love- lol, or what I thought love to be. I started to write love stories, love quotes, poems, whatever else came to mind. I don't know how but he became my inspiration. I'd think of how he gave me butterflies in my stomach and voila, the words would come together. It was magical.

I didn't realize how much of my writing was inspired by him until it all came crashing down. It was my first heartbreak. I lost touch with the pen so I stopped writing for a while. When I started to write again, I gravitated towards sad stories and heartbreak quotes but they always seemed flawed to me. It was a constant struggle. I should write about this someday, I certainly should.

PS:Did you just 'Awwww' me? Lol, that happened years ago. Let's move on, shall we?

During the COVID ERA, I took up a remote content writing job as an intern, one of the best decisions I ever made. It was quite difficult at first because I had stopped writing for years. So, I learnt to write again. I create content for blogs, develop social media content calendars for businesses etc.

Now, I want to write about anything and everything; my everyday Lagos life, love, mental health, even Real estate. But most importantly, I want to write about Sickle cell anemia because my older sister(who happened to be my only sibling) was a carrier who passed away some years back due to health complications.
Hopefully, someday I can help raise more awareness, funding and write articles about sickle cell and how to manage it, one day at a time.

From what I have seen and heard, HIVE is a platform that allows me to express myself without fear of rejection or judgment (I sincerely hope this is true). I hope to meet a lot of people here, people who enjoy my writings as much as I do theirs. I’d also like to add that I am open to constructive criticism just as much as I am eager to learn.

I want to write for you, for me, for us. I want this to be the place where you come, regardless of what day it is and how you feel at the time. I want to make you laugh, cry, scream, dance, sing, and of course learn.

So, welcome to OMOSEFE’S HAVEN.
