I built my house this past spring, summer, and fall - I have lots of time now to finish up the inside. This is a quick post about finishing the drywall in the Laundry Closet.
The Tools and Supplies
Drywall compound (mud), mudding tape for a strong joint where two drywall boards meet, a Mud scraper to apply the mud and smooth the surface, and a hand Sander for the the final smoothing.

Taping
I taped the joint where the drywall boards meet with drywall tape - the drywall boards are sunken along the edges, so the tape will be below the drywall surface after mudding.
The laundry in-wall box with the drain, hot water, and cold water has a trim piece that will cover the edges.
Mudding
With the mud scraper, I apply the mud (drywall compound) to the screw holes, corners, and where the drywall meets, then scrape it smooth with the drywall surface.
Light Sanding
The drywall takes 12-24 hours to dry, depending on how thick the mud is applied. After sanding the mudded surfaces flat, mud is scraped on again to fill any remaining sunken areas, the mud sometimes shrinks a little after drying.
After the second coat of mud dried, I sanded again.
I put the laundry utility box trim back on until the closet gets painted.

With the breaker still off, 240 volt outlet is attached - it looks like this one could have gone under the drywall, I'll have to get a cover plate for that.
Next up for the closet, and the rest of the house, is painting and flooring.
