Painting Session at LokalBrew

Hi there, wholesome reader!

It's I and Abi again meeting to do a painting session. The last time we saw each other, we did a plein air painting by the mountain top, which I shared here as well.

Almost two years later, here we are again. We chose a different scene this time and visited a local coffee shop that's close to my heart (I was the one who suggested the place).

Our meetup time was 12:30NN but none of us actually arrived on time. I reached the place 30 minutes earlier than Abi. Since I have nothing else to do, I started my sketches right after I ordered my drink. I've been avoiding heavily-caffeinated drinks so salted caramel it is. But you guys should try their coffee, it's the best one in the south! 😉

I planned to draw the inside of the cafe using my iPad. I’ve switched to digital painting ever since I purchased my iPad. But sometimes, when the mood kicks in, I get my art materials out of its box to remind myself how much I enjoy painting on paper, too.

While waiting for Abi, I had these thoughts of appreciation for this cafe. I really love this place, not just because of their quality coffee, but because they thoughtfully source their beans from local farmers. Their main advocacy is supporting local products. They also help other small and startup cafes in Cebu by initiating coffee workshops every now and then.

Another reason to love this cafe is that they explicitly support visual artists. Inside the cafe, you’ll notice how the place is surrounded with different kinds of arts. They even host coffee painting events before! See, there are a lot of things to love about this place. Kudos to the owner for creating such space!

By the way, this cafe is located in a corner somewhere in Carcar City, Cebu. You can find them on Google Maps and also, you can find more details about LokalBrew here.

When Abi arrived, she decided to settle in the table next to mine so we can both do our thing comfortably. As it has been a long while since we saw each other the last time, it was necessary to do a catch up session before we actually painted. I, who have started my light sketching, had to put my pen down and let the conversations on life keep flowing.

And it’s as if we both knew it’s about time to start doing what we came for. We completely just stopped talking, our heads down on our work. Sometimes, we’d casually talk while painting and then another moment of silence while we go back to painting. It was like that for almost three hours.

I finally felt the pain in my neck and my wrist when I expressed to Abi that I am done for the day (even though my artwork had still a long way to go lol). But, it’s Abi after all; she understands and gets me. We left the cafe at around 4:30PM, giving us enough time to avoid the 5:00PM traffic.

All I could say is: there is never a dull moment with Abi and I appreciate days like this so much – doing what I love at a place I love! 😁
