To all the artists out there, hope you are all well,
A few weeks ago I decided to trick my friend into taking a photograph of herself, that I actually used for a caricature I made for her birthday.
Now I know that caricatures are normally exaggerated and goofy but I like to make it as flattering as possible, especially when it comes to women.
She is a strong woman, a mechanic, a firefighter and also a mom who loves race cars. I tried to incorporate all that in this little watercolor caricature.
I was so self conscious because she is my friend and when you know a person you are drawing it's always harder because you know exactly how they are supposed to look. Not just same as the photograph but they are features that are hidden and define that person. When I gave it to her she cried.
Luckily they were happy tears.
