Portrait, Heidi

Hi Everyone!

Hello Sketchbook Community and beyond. Welcome back to emanate artworx! This time I've got something different from my normal. It's a 7/8 view portrait, a challenging angle to attack, and with the figure attached even, something I don't usually include 😅.

Inspiration
This time I wanted to create a scene that gives the viewer a sense of peace or serenity. I had an idea to depict an elegant lady whose face was partially obscured. In my mind she was looking down, reading or doing something like that, definitely in her own thoughts. She was existing in a way that conveyed a calmness, rather than serious concentration. Peaceful energy.

Reflection
For this one I didn't want to force it, so I just went with the flow of the process as it unfolded. I didn't focus so much on getting every single detail perfect.

It was actually very enjoyable to make this one, and not so nerve wracking! Day-to-day life has been demanding a lot of attention and energy from me lately, so I have to keep fighting for my art dreams to stay alive. If the art is stressing me out too, we've got a problem.

Instead of honing in on perfecting the details, I considered the overall effect of the elements working together. The color palette is limited and the figure is not extremely detailed, but enough to understand the scene. I used a triangle shape to plant the figure within the composition in a soft way.

Next time I make a painting with a figure, I will use MagicPoser app, as recommended by @solumviz, to make life a little easier! 😅 I have it on my phone, but I somehow forgot about it when I made this, bah!

For the background I used one of the items from the IbisPaint library of Materials ‐ Real Backgrounds (Color) - Sunflower 01. This is actually the first time I've used a background for one of my worx. Usually I make the background myself.

*What are your thoughts on using a pre-made background vs. a hand-painted background? *

One improvement that could be made to this version iof IbisPaint is the ability to enter text into a search field to find a specific item in Materials quickly. As a non-developer idk what that might involve so...?!
