OpenAI wasn't playing at all when they said they'll release SearchGPT before the end of 2024.
ChatGPT has finally added real-time search to its features but of course you can't see it on yours because, it’s only available to some lucky people in the US, I think it's a way to get feedback from how users feel about it before making it accessible to everyone. And no, unfortunately I'm not amongst thos with access to SearchGPT, I’ve only been reading about it. I'm a bit annoyed by the fact that I don't have access because they're basically dangling something this cool in front of me and saying, "But wait, you can’t touch it yet."
From what I gather online, SearchGPT offers live web search with widgets that will show you things like the weather and stock updates, so you won't need Google for these things anymore, that is if only it's as effective and as accurate with real time data as Google is right now. So when you get access, you can just ask for the latest stock prices and you'll get a real-time update right in the chats page. That means no more jumping from Google chrome tab to tab, trying to figure out what’s accurate and what’s outdated. That was the goal of OpenAI like I said in my previous blog.
The plan Google had about Google assistant, well OpenAI is taking over that task now with SearchGPT.
The only downside like I said is how super exclusive this feature is. It’s only available to a select few on iOS and even then, some still need to use a VPN just to access it.
For Android users and Desktop users? Nope, not yet, forget trying to check. Infact, when it rolls out to everyone, it might be a paid feature, but I hope they don't do that.
I feel really left out honestly, and they also don't have a consistent rollout strategy for you to hope towards a particular roll out data.
I'll keep you guys updated just in case something changes about this.
