In this post, I want to share my experience when I saw a cleaning service stealing money where I work. At that time I was typing my work assignment. My workspace is adjacent to the desk of the finance department. It was early in the morning, and the finance clerk was making coffee. A cleaning service came into our room to clean the floors and also pick up office trash.
When cleaning floors, a cleaning service is like observing something. Looking right and left made me suspicious of his behavior that morning. I pretended not to see it and tried to look focused on my work. As he wiped the table, I watched him secretly. Turns out he opened a drawer slowly and put something in his trouser pocket. It was then that I found out that he was stealing. But I don't know what stuff he put in his pocket yet.
As he was about to leave the room, I called him. The cleaning service looked pale and scared. Even his tone seemed nervous. I said I had seen him take something out of a treasurer's office drawer. I told him I didn't care that he stole here, but the consequences must be borne by him. Because CCTV is recording his activities in this room. I also said not to tell anyone if he put back what he had taken. It turned out that he took some money and he had noticed the employee often put the money in the work drawer.
When I asked him why he was stealing, he replied that the money would be used to pay the rent for the house which was three months late. If not paid, he will no longer have a place to live. I was a little concerned, but I also didn't want to give money to him. I suggest trying to borrow some money from the boss and get paid by deducting the salary every month until it's paid off. He nodded and gave it a try.
Sometimes, life's problems make a person think short and look for shortcuts. Whereas, the risks and consequences faced will make life's problems more complicated and bigger. If a person can control his emotions and calm his mind, good ideas or solutions will emerge to deal with problems. However, because of the focus on the problem at hand, a person does not think clearly and justifies any means to solve his problem. Whereas, that action will make life's problems even bigger.
