Hello everyone, how is your boxing day?
Hope you get many gifts today. Today is also Sunday, me and some of my friends had a wonderful coconut party at a hidden beach at the foot of Hai Van pass. It may sound unrelated but that's how we celebrate our Boxing Day.
The beach that we went to today is a hidden beach located at the foot of Hai Van pass. I don't really know what it's called, but there's a coconut forest there and they belong to no one. I noticed this coconut forest when I went there camping a few times. And this is a great time to come here and enjoy the succulent coconuts. Getting there is not difficult. We rode our motorbikes out of town in the morning and then we parked our motorbikes at a cafe on Hai Van pass and then walked down to the beach. All our journey took about an hour, it was quite tiring, but we enjoyed riding the motorbike on the beautiful road on Hai Van pass and walking down to the sea.
We arrived at the beach around 10am, then we looked for a flat sand under the shade of a tree to make our stay for the day. And just as I expected, the coconut trees there are very fruitful and it is the right time to pick them. We took turns trying to climb the coconut trees to pick the coconuts but we were not successful. It seems that no one has come here for a long time and after rainy days, the trunks of the coconut trees become more slippery. We actually lost quite a bit of strength after trying a few times. It was sunny, so I was drenched in sweat. After that, we decided to take a short lunch break to think about how to pick these coconuts.
The girls in our group were very attentive bringing in some packets of instant noodles, which were also our main course for lunch. In addition, we also had some grilled dried fish. And of course I never forget to bring some coffee. And my most productive thing this morning was teaching the girls how to make a fire in the sand. Although we haven't picked any coconuts yet, we were very happy to spend time together, having lunch and chatting at that beautiful beach.
After having lunch and resting for a while, we decided to go around the beach to find a stick long enough to reach the coconuts. Luckily, we found a very long dry bamboo on the beach. The bamboo was so big and long that I had to trim it down a bit to make it lighter. Then I tied a string to one end of the bamboo to create a noose big enough to hang around the coconuts. We were lucky enough to have Danilas, a Polish friend of mine. He is strong enough to be able to use that heavy bamboo to pick coconuts. After about 30 minutes of struggling with the heavy bamboo, we picked up 6 coconuts for our cocobut party. It can be said that these are very large coconuts. Even Danilas said they were the biggest coconuts he had ever seen in Vietnam.
Wow 6 super big coconuts! It was well worth our efforts and just enough for the 6 of us today. After that, we headed back to our resting place to start the party. Sunnie, a friend of mine from America, brought a special tool for making a hole in the coconut to get the water out of it. This was my first time trying it, and it was great, getting the water out of the coconut was so easy. And those coconuts really had a lot of water and their water was also very fragrant and sweet. You can imagine how good they were that 6 of us finished 6 big coconuts. In addition, the inner flesh of the coconut is also great. I don't know what to call them, but Sunnie called them coconut jelly.
After enjoying the delicious coconuts, we went around to explore that beautiful beach before returning around when it started to get dark. We had a wonderful boxing day at a beautiful beach with a coconut party. Hope you also have a great day with your family and friends. Thank you for taking the time to read my post!
